COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

I saw a customer wearing a mask and disposable gloves. I coughed into the fold of my elbow as woke up with a nasty chest cough. Yet recovered from cold and symptoms free for two days.

The customer made a cross with her fingers.

Even another customer shook his head with disbelief
If she didn't make that cross, she would have likely died. Everyone knows, this is the universal protection against disease and vampires.
You and the other customers should be ashamed.

I have never or will ever deny it's existence.
That said, I will continue to poke fun at those who over emphasise the seriousness of it that really doesn't affect the vast majority of people.
Remind me again the % chance of serious illness or death from it.
Maybe I'm ignorant in not worrying about gLoBaL BoiLing or covid or any of the other shiz that we're bombarded with, but it's not done me any harm thus far.
Work hard, enjoy the spoils, job done, or worry ones self into an early grave.
I'll pick the former, thanks very much.

Bet you're a Trump and Musk fan also!

I’m asthmatic. Colds always go to my chest.

People need to get rid of this attitude of coughing means Covid.

In the past a manager has backed me and said to a customer that I’m asthmatic and coughing is a side effect of my medication

It’s the disposable gloves that people get annoyed about. Medical staff change their gloves between every patient. Whilst those who wear them when shopping touch thousands of items. Then many wear the same gloves again and again. I think those gloves have more nasties and germs than bare hands

Bet you're a Trump and Musk fan also!
Ha
Haha
Hahahahahahaha
It that really the best you can come up with?
Like working hard and enjoying life is a bad thing?
Try it, it pays dividends.
Or, try not, and see where that gets you (well I guess you know where that gets you).
Try harder, it's not that difficult, and the rewards will be great.
Or not, what ever and be forever bitter.

I was hoping you would get the satire of my comment, unless vampires are a thing now?

That's a yes then :)

There's 2 ladies working on the tills at my local m and s that I see quite often(I'm in at least twice a week) and everytime they are wearing one of the blue paper masks

Not wearing properly as the top of the mask just covers the top lip. The masks always looks grubby as they're presumably on all day with regular touching whilst handling 1000's of different fiod items each shift

Just can't see the point and shake my head. I understand that nowadays you can't criticise or question as wearing it is they're choice and helping they're mental health but ffs

I blame the govt and media for scaring people into this and it will take a long time before we completely see the back of it

My partners old man now routinely declines going for a coffee stating he doesn't fancy it whilst everyone else goes and I'm positive it's covid legacy of being scared to go out

What kind of lame comment is that?

The majority of society have resumed normal behavior. Likely looked around their towns, looked at their friend groups, their kids in schools and their families at work and realised they don't see many people dropping dead.

Do you think we should be all locking down, social distancing and all wearing masks right now?

I'm not sure what your issue is with someone choosing to just get on with their life and treating covid as something they will just deal with should they get it.

I would also add that in the same way government guidance was flakey during the height of pandemic, their lack of direction in the aftermath hasn't helped this silly divide between those still scared and those who couldn't gaf any more.

Absolutely no one I know in my personal life wears masks or talks about boosters or vaccines any more. Anyone else like yourself seems like Abe Simspon yelling at a cloud.

Also doesn't believe in climate change. It's not a huge jump to make.

Not that there's anything to 'believe', the science clearly shows what's going on in terms of the impact of our actions.

What's your personal take on current covid?

How do you live your life around it. Do you distance, wear masks, get frequent boosters? Are you in the "at risk" group?

Your climate comment is interesting because in the same way some people just accept they have no control over getting covid or not, they also know they have no control over environmental damage being done on an industrial scale by countries we rely on for cheap products and by rich people jetting about on private planes.

I don't know directly, though know of a small number of cases indirectly, of people who've had it seriously as in hospitalised, etc. let alone a healthy person dying from COVID - but it has certainly left its mark around my circle of acquaintances including several people with existing serious conditions where COVID has finished off their ability to fight the condition and sadly passed away despite recovering from COVID itself - it is quite horrible seeing their partners trying to come to terms with it when they knew their time left was limited but thought it was still in the range of years yet. Probably a dozen people who've had short to medium term heart conditions arising from COVID including one who had 2 heart attacks. And several more who've been a ghost of their previous self for months after having COVID before getting back to something like the person they used to be. Personally took me about 3 months to really feel like myself again post COVID and still have some minor lingering issues from it.

There are some less negative stories though - I know of one lady, friend of the family but never met her myself, had it quite seriously early on and when they x-rayed her lungs due to it they found advanced cancer but just early enough to treat and that almost certainly saved her life.

EDIT: Personally I think sadly the bulk of people most vulnerable to the disease have died (or recovered with some immune system development) but we still should have consideration for those who are still around who are more vulnerable to the disease.

Don't get me wrong, I absolute sympathise with those unfortunate enough to have suffered in these ways but the thing that winds me up is that some people seem to want to guilt trip the rest of us for just getting on with our lives.

I could die tomorrow from some underlying condition that gets triggered by covid but I wouldn't die feeling angry at society for them wanting to live a life without restrictions.

People have to draw a line somewhere surely.

Once free test kits got pulled and boosters became something you had to actively chase I concluded that it was time to relax.

I know someone who lost a parent to covid. Terrible and im sorry but...

Dad was Fat/overweight previous heart condition and a heavy smoker and drinker got Covid and died of "breathing complications.....heart failure"

He is extremely conscious of catching it "this time" and even more worried about spreading it... Hes on booster 5 or 6.... I gave up at 3.

Without underlying medical conditions contributing has there been a genetic type study that indicates certain people are just more disposed to it and will be more heavily effected. There was plenty of cliche stories about how the "fit athlete type" is laying on a ventilator in intensive care because of Covid. Not so much at my Hospital where i work. Most victims easily fit into the underlaying condition risk group...

Did the chinese lab manufacture it to attack certain genetic groups ? :P Is it safe to say stuff like that now in nearly 2024? Are there still people that think its natural?

So what? If they don't want to risk catching it or any other unpleasant respiratory illness why does it bother you and people like you so much? Is it some kind of macho thing where everyone should just accept that they'll probably be coughing their guts up several times a year because everyones in it together? They should just "man up" and catch it like everyone else? I'm genuinely curious.
