COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

I don't think we can put everything on Trump.

Governments were manipulating the truth to bring in new laws.

So they had to over emphasise how bad it was.

The problem is it was bad, just not hysterically bad, so now people are acting like it's nothing.

There is also an obsession with the vaccine to the point some people think the vaccine is worse than covid itself.

One guy I was arguing with thinks the covid spike protein was only in the vaccine

Hope i
He asked during a press conference whether it was possible to inject bleach. That's still probably not something he should have said, given that he's not a meidcal expert and also his hardcore followers take everything his says as gospel, and some did apparently inject themselves with disinfectant (reported cases of poisoning increased). So some people did take his statement as being a potential remedy.

At the expense of defending Trump he actually doesn't, it is a child like attempt at trying to sound clever but if you watch the whole thing he is actually saying [asking] is there anything which would work like bleach that can be injected, does not at all suggest injecting bleach itself though it could be mistaken for that.

The fact that people are still yapping about mask wearing etc is insane. Skulls so thick nothing penetrates them. It literally makes 0 difference to you if someone does or does not wear a mask. What’s next, you’re going to tell me what colour socks to put on because white gets mucky quicker. Get a grip.
And yet there are people who will do just that. Go figure.

Problem is many employers like mine has a sickness policy of hitting 3 sicknesses and get disciplinary. Things like post surgery recovery and major things like broken legs, cancer get discounted towards this. Because of my asthma and if I am sick off work with asthma related conditions, there's some leeway for me. For others, they don't want the stress etc associated with disciplinaries.

Hence why you see shop workers etc coming into work full of a stinking cold. If I get a cold where I am constantly blowing my nose - I call in sick as not practical.

In one job I had, which was back office support for a call centre, hardly spoke to customers. I had a massive cold with a severe blocked nose. Only way to relieve it was to stick a Vicks inhaler stick in each nostril. My manager couldn't stop laughing and said I must go home and she wouldn't count my sickness to the sickness policy. I looked like Blackadder in this https://blackadderquotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/wibble.jpg.webp without the pants on head.
There are people who don't even get sick pay just SSP and thats peanuts. Plenty of people literally cannot afford to get sick what with things being what they are right now and masks are cheap, cheaper than all that lost pay.

So many people saying they don't care about covid yet spending so much time in the covid thread...

Yep time to close it - there's no other dedicated diseases thread and most of the posts are either people describing cold symptoms or having the same arguments over and over.

SSP is just over £100 pw. Fortunately my employer pays full sick pay.

Then got places with zero hour contracts. No pay at all. I think Iceland's staff have 10 hour contracts and rest is o/t. So if they get sick, they just get 10 hours of pay.

Trump definitely said he was going to “look into injecting disinfectant”. As for the anti maskers, I am sure you are also as zealous about laughing at people who wear hats when the sun isn’t out or it isn’t raining or jacket wearers when it isn’t freezing? If not, I suspect you need to come to terms with the fact some things have changed for some people, and just because it reminds you of your trauma you‘ll just have to get used to it. Thought police!

edit - here you go

Who are the anti maskers you are referring to? Or are you just having a random rant.

The reliability of the tests can depend on the person using them. Best results are IMO done after waking up, both throat and nose swab. Never failed to ping everyone I know who had it with that.
I've been using them the same way all the time and no no problems detecting covid back in 2022. I just wondered if a new variant was much harder to detect with current tests.

There's 2 ladies working on the tills at my local m and s that I see quite often(I'm in at least twice a week) and everytime they are wearing one of the blue paper masks

Not wearing properly as the top of the mask just covers the top lip. The masks always looks grubby as they're presumably on all day with regular touching whilst handling 1000's of different fiod items each shift

Just can't see the point and shake my head. I understand that nowadays you can't criticise or question as wearing it is they're choice and helping they're mental health but ffs

I blame the govt and media for scaring people into this and it will take a long time before we completely see the back of it

My partners old man now routinely declines going for a coffee stating he doesn't fancy it whilst everyone else goes and I'm positive it's covid legacy of being scared to go out

#1 - Not wearing them properly is just virtue signalling
#2 - Masks are grubby
#3 - Regular handling of grubby masks and handling customers food items and coins and notes leads to further spreading of flu and other viruses
#4 - covid is a busted flush

Who are the anti maskers you are referring to? Or are you just having a random rant.

So people who are commenting on the incorrect use of masks, not saying they are anti mask. Right.

They are though. It reminds them, so they squeal about it.

”Just can't see the point and shake my head. I understand that nowadays you can't criticise or question as wearing it is they're choice and helping they're mental health but ffs”

”Mental Health”. He wants to say bedwetter like we’ve heard a million times.

Just like Orangeade et all with the faux outrage about loosing freedoms. We got them back didn’t we? With the exception of the big life events of course.

”We are all happy to risk catching it” - fine
”I am happy to risk catching it” - fine
”I am happy for you to risk catching it” - not fine

I have no idea why this is so hard for some.

They remind me that unless a mask is worn properly and disposed of and replaced correctly when required, then they may aswell just wrap an old tshirt around their face and wear that for weeks.

I happy for people choosing to wear masks or being cautious. Just like I'm happy for the majority who've chosen to move on from the phase in their life and just carry on as usual.
