So I got the o2 sim card for £10 deal. Its exactly the same as my sim card I use now for £7.99 but £10. So I canceled my current one and and got the free upgrade 512 to 1gig for effectively £2 extra per month.

So I'm now paying 32 + 10 for 1 gig and Sim.

Where's before I was paying 32 + 8 for 512 and Sim.

Finally, got an email today saying:

My account is £10.67 in credit too which they say will be sent to me via cheque lol.

It's been a fun 20 years...

I'm with toob full fibre getting 947/947. The only full fibre provider in this postcode currently. OpenReach won't finish their fibre installs until the end of 2026

No they don't piggyback off anyone as their fibre is their own. They did partner up with CityFibre though for expansion but the core infrastructure is their own.

I'm very happy still that I left (switched to Youfibre). I read in here every so often still to see if anything has changed but it never does. Price increases, cancellations, reductions and then starts over again :(

VM is currently deploying FTTP (XGS-PON) to our estate as we speak and have made great progress in the two weeks leading up to Christmas.

As and when I'm able to place an order it sounds like they'll provide a Hub5x (If I've read the above correctly).

I'm not sure this thread is best placed for my question but what's the best budget-friendly Mesh system to compliment the Hub5x? I intend to hard wire some devices but I will still need wifi across the rest of the property (three stories, 4 bedrooms circa 1400 sqft)

1500 sq foot house here, a single UniFi AP mounted upstairs on the landing ceiling covers the house, however it's 2 story. I'd suggest perhaps an AP on the ground floor and one on the top floor. That's if you have hard wiring available, you could use a mesh system but without a wired backhaul you lose available bandwidth for the nodes to be able to talk to each other.

eero get good reviews if you don't mind getting into bed with Amazon.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The only 'problem' I have with installing APs is hard-wiring them. That wouldn't be very straightforward in this property hence my preference for a Mesh system.

Regarding "you could use a mesh system but without a wired backhaul you lose available bandwidth for the nodes to be able to talk to each other" - Isn't this where"Tri-band" systems come into play? Forgive my ignorance (I'm learning as I go) but I thought some systems had an extra band so the backhaul didn't interfere and/or take bandwidth from the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands/ Like I said I'm learning here so I could be talking out my backside.

How old is the house? If it's relatively new then you might have phone or coax cabling installed which you could make use off if you figure out which cable goes where.

Yes some mesh systems use a dedicated wireless backhaul however it's still eating into the available channels, I've not used any myself so not sure how they perform.

It's just under 8 years old now. I'm conscious there's some ethernet running between rooms but I think that's limited to the main lounge (on the middle floor) and the family room (on the ground floor) and both run back to a cupboard near the door.

Ideally, if possible, I'd like the Hub5x located in the lounge on the middle floor (if they'd run the fibre cable there) and then branch out from there.
