Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I got a nice surprise in the post today. I had complained to customer services over text message but didn’t follow it up. I was going to send a more formal letter calculating what I thought I was owed but hadn’t yet got round to it. Then today I got an unsolicited cheque for £2k with absolutely no explanation. Literally just the cheque in an envelope. Pretty chuffed with that!!!

That’s crazy.

I thought i’d setup a broadband quality monitor out of curiosity and i’m wondering if you guys could look at my results and tell me if they’re normal or not?

My Broadband Ping

Thanks

Do you have much running on your network, backups or anything uploading? As that graph looks a bit odd, possibly high utilisation in the area. Mine is below to compare, this is on their traditional hybrid network not the new FTTP:

No nothing going on in the background. Maybe i’ll post it in the office virgin forums and see if they think it’s worth investigating.

So who is better and cheaper than virgin for broadband only? My contract expires at end of this month - they keep emailing me weekly saying to renew at my current price £26 for M200 + obligatory phone line which hasn't been used in 8 years.

I don't watch tv.

I get peed off with the frequent disconnects and downtime.

Although I'm paying for M200 I just ran speedtest and I'm getting 272mbs down and 26mbs up
Pretty much all other providers :p obviously it will depend on what's available in your area but I'm paying £22.50 a month for 900/900 fttp
Still no doorstep collection from VM about the Hub5, going really well I see...

The returns process is a joke and VM don't seem to kow what day it is when you speak to them about it. My returns saga is still ongoing since Oct 25th. the 3rd and last time I spoke to them about it they told me its all sorted but then got an email saying I would get a £40 refund even though I hadn't paid anything. Never got a refund but now they keep emailing me saing I owe them £40 still for the SH3 I returned 2 years ago!

I ended up just dropping the hub5 off at the local shop as got fed up with the false promises of VM whether live chat or in the VM forums that someone will collect it but now to be told it will overshoot the 22nd December deadline so I'd be charged £40 or whatever until it's returned.

They have 0% care for customer support, the people on the forums can only escalate things and you find yourself constantly having to chase up. getting through on the phone is like winning the lottery as well.

So far on toob I have called up 3 times I think to enquire about various things like static IP and stuff, and each time got through to a UK person who sorted out the query within a moment. It just highlighted the night and day difference, you'd expect the smaller ISP to have a busier system and less staff to answer calls, but nope it's the opposite.

Aquiss cabled up today. FFXIV NA server pings...

VM without VPN: 400ms ping
VM with VPN: 180ms ping
Aquiss without VPN: 150ms ping

Result! Bye, VM. I was with you for longer than all my relationships combined and I'll have to do the dumping this time, you're too high maintenance and I guess it took me too long to realise you never really loved me. :p

Just the new SH5+

I just noticed the Super Hub 5 has been upgraded to a 1x 10Gbps ports (XGS-PON) from the 2.5Gbps port (DOCSIS 3.1) and called it Hub 5x. I wonder if it's in preparation / tests to bring faster than 1Gbps connections.

I never knew this.

This is for their new 'full' fibre areas.
