The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

In my eyes it's direct drive or nothing.
Of honestly not bother with anything else, you just end up hating it. I had one of those magnetic wheel on ones.

I bought an Elite wheel-on "dumb" turbo in 2006, I doubt it got more than ~10 hours use in total.

Since Xmas '17 I've had direct drive "smart" turbos and I use it more than 10 hours every three weeks even with long covid for the last ~15 months.

Great, now I want to go spend £3.5k!

I imagine that when we move to our next house which will have a garage or at least a proper spare room I will get a static full bike trainer like these but I sure as hell won't buy new.

I purchased my Kurt Road Machine (wheel-on) in January 2014. Only upgraded to a Saris H3 DD trainer in November 2021!

I can't imagine that you'd subscribe to Zwift on a dumb wheel-on trainer but the Road Machine survived many a Sufferfest sweat-fest!

Yeah I'd quite like a Wahoo bike if only as I think not having to change our bikes would make my partner use it more

Ahh you see my partner would like to use my Kickr but I have explained that its got a 12 speed cassette and no other bike we own fits that and with my new frame I can't drop the saddle for her either. Thats ignoring the fact she is 5'2" and I am 6'2"...

I reckon that when we get somewhere with room for a proper "pain cave" I could persuade her to chip in on a proper adjustable bike which she will use about 3 times and then never touch again. Shes been complaining that she can't use mine on and off for about a year but she won't even stretch in front of the TV for 5 minutes to help her with some of her issues so going on a bike trainer isn't likely to happen...

@fez to be fair to her my partner did use Zwift a fair amount after giving birth as it allowed her to cycle with one of her friends who lives back in Wales. But she soon got bored of it and never went back

I think she's actually still paying Zwift... the chump lol.

@Sinbad2000 - That's my understanding of it. I just would've thought that they would've put some sort of gear switches like the Wahoo/Garmin ones. Especially as they're marketing it with Zwift.

New sub £1k smart bike from Decathlon looks interesting...
Oooh, that's very interesting. I'll be watching some reviews later. I was only thinking this morning, a fixed bike might be my next purchase. (I would love to have another couple of hundred Watts on it though...)

Yeah, provided my 4:30 meeting finishes early enough, I was thinking to do 5pm. I can't decide now between B and C. 20 miles with only 700ft isn't all that rolling though, surely? Sounds reasonably flat?

I'll probably do the 6pm one if the nursery run is kind to me.

I find Scotland fairly boring really. Skur and the Mountain (sp?) is a fun route to race on but I find most of them pretty boring. All the routes today includes laps which makes iit less fun to try
