Baldur's Gate 3

I think the number of quests I have is why I have no direction, I don't know which to do and in which order.. so many.. I'm sure I'm missing things
Do what you want. There's plenty to skip and not do this play through. I ended up doing too many in the first area and wanted to tick them all off.

As some direction. I'd suggest the following

do the Grove area, head out going west to the blighted village, go north to the town there, do those quests, perhaps visit north east area. You could also, starting from the crashed ship you arrive on, go west from there and explore those bits. East to north east area is also a good idea.

Who do you have in your party?

Party is Me (Straight Fighter), Astarion, Shadowheart, and I had Gale, but just kicked Gale (He just died all the time), swapped him for LaeZel

Astarion will soon see to that.

Also, Mages (Gale) are pretty weak at the start as they've a limited spellbook, but once they get a few levels they can really bring the pain. I'm an old school BG player and I found it difficult in Act1, but got easier as it went on.....if you're getting frustrated, drop the difficulty down and increase it once you've started to get into the swing of things.

I'd also perhaps swap astarion out. He's good for breaking locks, but not fighting. I struggled a lot more whenever he was in my party.

He was really good for me in Act 2. Dual wielding + offhand attack +
the cloak that grants invisibility with each kill
and I had him dancing amongst melee groups wreaking havoc.

A note on this point though on that spoiler:

It's only available to be obtained for a certain origin character. You can't get it otherwise on other characters.

I made him into an open-hand monk when I decided it was time to swap him into the party and do his quest.

With all the monk gear I'd picked up that no one else wanted, he was surprisingly effective. Effective enough that I kept him around for a couple of quests after beating his questline. But in the end Laezel's two-handed rampaging destruction was just a better fit. I could never make him as deadly as those monks, unfortunately, so eventually he went back to warming the bench. Camp. Tent. Whatever.

Bit late now, but if you do another run through or restart for any reason it's worth knowing you can get Laezel a really powerful sword right at the start of the game. On the Mind Flayer ship, when you reach the last room where the Flayer is fighting the Devil, Shadowheart can use a spell to command the Devil to drop his flaming sword, which Laezel can pick up and wield. Makes her an absolute force in later fights.

That sword saw my Durge fighter all the way to Act3. Just be careful walking near anything flammable :D

I've been wanting to get in to this as everyone says how good it is. For someone who hasn't played anything like this before, do you think I'd be completely overwhelmed?
Yes, but not for long, especially on easy mode. Easy mode still has its challenges, but it's less punishing. The game also feels like it pushes the team you should have at the start which is best for beginners.

I got a question.

If you have two weapons one has better stats and looks better on paper but is less value in gold to another weapon that has less stats and looks worse on paper but is worth more what do you use?

I usually go with the more expensive. But I got two weapons here and the more expensive looks less good.

I have a sword and a great axe.

The axe has better stats but the sword is worth more gold.

Also same with armour.

I think I have light armour 12 worth a lot (no obvious reasons why. No special extras) compared to a light armour 13 worth less.
Do you know the exact names? There prob will be a reason why but hard to say without knowing which items they are.

14.5 hours into it now and finally starting to work out what I'm doing :)

the one major criticism I have is that there isn't enough instruction in the early stages, If I hadn't spent hours watching YouTube videos I would have no idea about some core fundamentals of the game. Even though I played a lot of AD&D (30 years ago) and knew the core mechanics and ideas, it still took a lot of research to get back up to speed and starting to really enjoy it.
