The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

If my shed was higher I'd have been really tempted to buy that but I don't think it would work where I ride! It was actually on my mind during Ven-top, I basically did the whole thing seated (which adds to my positive experience of my AliExpress saddle!) as I realised it's really hard to 'climb' out of the saddle whilst the bike is still effectively flat. It just feels weird so I never stay out of the saddle for long.

I have to do the other route in France which does 2/3rd of the Ven-Top route then I'm not touching that climb again until the winter where hopefully I'll be fitter than I am now. Some person blew past me at 7w/kg and did the climb in 66 minutes. Bit disheartening to see how rapid some people are, if they're being genuine!

Going to try and do Quatch Quest this weekend (1700m. Epic KOM and ADZ) but even though it has an extra 200m elevation I feel it'll be a bit easier.

Thats weird, i've never had an issue climbing out of the saddle on Zwift and I really don't like riding for more than an hour at a time because I find its really uncomfortable. If I ever do AdZ I tend to be coming out of the saddle periodically from about 1/2 - 2/3rd of the way up just to give myself a break and hit some slightly different muscles. I guess its never for more than a minute at a time though.

The only way I can explain the sensation is when I'm on Zwift and I'm out of the saddle it feels more like a sprint than outright climbing. When I'm doing a real climb the tilt of the road and the way I stand changes my centre of mavity which makes it feel more comfortable and/or efficient with putting power down. It just doesn't feel natural to me to hold that position whilst the bike is level

The more I think about it, if I'm riding IRL I rarely get out of saddle when it's flat unless I just want to do a sprint effort. Probably why I find it so difficult standing up on the flats

Think my longest Zwift ride is 3.5 hours so far, maybe a bit under. Doing my 25 laps of the Volcano. Once I get the Tron bike unlocked I'm going to try and get my 100 mile badge doing repeats on the Fuego flats

Oh I completely agree. The only time I get out of the saddle outside of hills is to have a little sprint, usually cresting a hill or just hammering the last km home.

The mechanics of being out of the saddle are indeed quite different on a hill vs the flat and I think the way your arms get involved is quite different.

One day I will have a proper static bike with all the gubbins along with tilting.

I’m thinking of a rocker plate for mine. Decent outlay though if I end up not liking it. Read a lot of very mixed reviews.

I've seen people on reddit sort of budge a rocker plate using tennis balls and such.

I'd like one to help with the side-to-side movement but I literally have maybe 2-3" of space above my head on the bike (when I'm sat upright)

I wonder whether adding a rocker plate puts any significant forces on the flywheel bearings (being a gyroscope and all that...)?

Yeah I'm not making one! I think it will feel more comfortable on longer rides as I think your core starts doing some of the stability work, rather than just having my backside plonked on the seat (which I have tried to change and failed, different story). Gets a bit numb at times.
Edit - Its a Saris MP1 for sale. Not a jet black. https://saris.com/products/mp1-nfinity-technology-motion-platform
They seem to be out of stock everywhere but there is one nearby on FB marketplace for $500. Not sure how I would strap the front of the bike down though or even if it would fit, looks a bit narrow.

I have one of those trainer tables, but I don't want something that bulky for my office/gym setup especially if it's at the front of the bike, blocking the fan. At the moment I have a smaller folding table next to my trainer, but I have to lean over and down if I want to get to my laptop (Zwift is being shown from this to a screen in front of me). Does anyone else have a setup that lets them use their laptop if needed?

Seem simple enough to make yourself if you've got the tools from what i've seen? Just some MDF sheets, hinges and tennis balls.

EDIT - Ignore, i should read later replies before posting!

What do you do on the laptop that you can't do on the companion app?
Yesterday was more than usual as I was still arranging Sauce windows. But then I wanted to change my bike after I'd finished the climb portal. Also, for some reason, the companion app seemed to freeze and wasn't connecting properly to my ride. I killed the app, opened again and it just didn't detect me riding.

Also, sometimes I'm in System and watching something on Plex that needs me to interact with it. Often I just need a mouse, not the keyboard/laptop.

I'm thinking something like this or this perhaps.

I’d start with the best of intentions but would end up being an unfinished project, cluttering up my garage :D

Yeah right. They are probably best then. I used to use a music sheet stand I got cheap on eBay to hold an iPad before I changed my set up. I run the game through Apple tv so just use a remote control.

Yes, I use a stand like the second link. Does the job perfectly well and can be folded up easily.

Hey guys, looking for some "easy" Vo2 and threshold workouts on Zwift. I seem to be perpetually slightly under the weather at the moment so things like "breakfast returns" and the "the gorby" are just a little too much for me right now. Any thoughts?

Gorby but shorter is what I do.
