Road Cycling

But I think I've included everything I needed. Actually, I'll need to find a front light solution because I wont have my Canyon front light any more. But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

All that money and you'll be turning it into a winter hack because it'll be miserable weather by the time you get it :p

Roll on posts like "I've ruined my bike riding in winter, want a new summer bike"

Interestingly, i was doing some reading last night to see how much faster i might be if i was less fat. It turns out the answer is not much at all.

I guess the hope is that weight loss can be combined with increased fitness/power which then combine to result in a faster speed, but purely weight loss alone doesn't make much difference, certainly not unless chasing marginal gains at the top end.

This is what I find when comparing with a mate of mine who is 20kg heavier. I can massively out accelerate him, but his overall higher power is faster overall and he tends to have me up short hills too. He does seem to notice minor long gradients more.

I've signed up with a mate to do a 100km gravel race in June. I don't have a gravel bike. I briefly considered sticking some 32c tyres on the TCR and then realised I would cry if I damaged the frame from being stupid. Now pricing up a nice gravel build...

I'm justifying it by saying that I will use it to take the boys out in a trailer or using those shotgun seats for kids.

What are these numbers based on? I assume not the same cyclist with 5kg added? Bottom line, I'm not sure I believe them, or that there might be other factors, like if it's from some pro race for example.

Well, this tbh. I can keep up with most people on flats, but even then 2% or 3% incline will mean I'm dropping off the back and a gap of 30 seconds can appear in a matter of minutes. Of course, we're not talking 5kg difference here, it's probably closer to 20 kg.

DW. You'll drop me on both the flats and hills :D Even with your additional weight. I was 81.9 this morning and you'd thrash me!

it's more how you mount it to the aero bars. My canyon has a mount which my wahoo clips onto and my 800 lumen light underneath it.
Only need a front light as I have my Varia doing rear duties

Edit: A Quick google solved my issue lol. Just need a mount with clips on the bottom

Yeah, mine is like that. Just has a clip under the mount.

I saw this the other day and it looks very cool. Less sticky outy compared to my light!

What i would like was some kind of battery indicator. My current light has nothing so you get no idea if it's going to die during your ride or not.

Thought i'd posted the link but seems not. It was initially talking about removing weight on the bike external to the rider (less kit etc) as it was discussing for some silly long endurance ride.

Most other discussions i found made similar claims though.

Yeah, I've noticed this thing pop up on my instagram quite a bit. Shame it's only 160lummens though. I've been spoilt by my current light which does 800/400/100. The 800 is useful when going on outdoor rides in the winter and stays on that mode for maybe 1.5-2hours which does the trick for the rides I do in the darker months.

Absolute bargain of a balance bike.

See if they'll chuck it in for free with an Aethos? Win Win!

It would sweeten the deal. Surely they've got excess stock around haha.

It's her 2nd birthday in a few weeks so we'll be getting her a balance bike... But knock off a zero and it's still double the price they usually are lol.

Finally decided to put new sealant in the tyres and get off the turbo and get back outside, done a couple of hour circuits the last two days and it’s amazing to be back out on the road.

The Ali express saddle is still holding up strong and also dropping down to a 160mm crankset I feel more comfortable on the bike now.

Yeah, i've been (forced) back out on the road and I have enjoyed the feeling of being out in the real world again. It's actually the first time I've been on the AliExpress saddle and I'm still really impressed with how it performs on the roads.

How tall are you? I'm 180cm, I can't remember the exact measurement of my inseam but I was thinking of going to a 160mm crankset but not sure if it's necessary for me. 172.5 on my Canyon

I’m a shortie at 165cm and my inseam is 70 I have shorter legs than average. I went to a smaller 47cm trek domane as I was finding it had with the canyon I had I should have sized down on that but I didn’t want to be on 650b wheels.

I took groupset off my old bike and old the frame. The group set was a 170mm on a bike fit they suggested I could go smaller and managed to find one that wasn’t too expensive

Hard disagree there.
I'll explain in more detail.

You can do a 2 hour ride without fueling, assuming your muscles are well fueled beforehand.
A banana whilst not enough carbs to properly maintain your energy levels for an extended effort, would get you close to 3 hours. As pointed out by someone else, you're not just fueling for your current exercise you're also thinking about the next one, so would need to eat more afterwards anyway.

My flippant comment was because people reach for gels instead of actual food when it's not really necessary. Especially if you're just doing an endurance ride.

There's actually a Certini right next to the concept store but they always look closed. It's only 10 minutes from me so I'll pass by soon

Are you comfy and efficient with your current bike frame and cranks length ? Then get same length in new and as close frame with setup as possible with new.

Use pages that compare bike sizes like https://geometrygeeks.bike/

In 180 on 56 frame - possibly could use 58 with my body and 172.5 cranks.

Bikefit would be handy but a good one costs small fortune
