Car theft - is it out of control?

I know someone who once reversed their company car into a metal post, gouging the rear quarter badly.
They were new in their role so didn't want to admit to a fault accident as they knew they'd get disciplinary action against them, so they parked it in a big layby, and said they had been out running in the countryside and when they came back the side was caved in, and it must have been an LGV using the layby to do a u-turn or something.
They got away with it too

At least they left him the plate.This was on one of my trucker groups on Facebook.
Driver had the lights stolen off his Scania whilst he slept in a layby. Taking a night out on the A1 is asking for trouble but even still when you run out of time you got to stop.
I can remember the old Corsa's and Fiesta's having their body kits stolen but this is another level!

if I was ford I would be pi.... d off with that article. surely it isn't the number of a brand of cars which are stolen which matters it is the percentage of a specific model. if you have 1000 fords on the road and 23 are stolen and 50 Citroen's of which 9 are nicked..... which is the most stealable car? it's not the ford!.

They really should put the figures down on a percentage to get a more accurate view point.
Only skimmed this thread, but I use a DiskLok, there the ones that cover the entire steering wheel. I purchased it from Halfords in 1999 for £50 in a sale. It's been moved from car to car, and never once has anyone tried to steal a vehicle in this time. Also more remarkable it's over 25 years old and never once had any issue with it, at least the one I own was built to last.

Deterants are good, makes them think twice, and move onto the next car.... hope you realise your steering lock takes about 50secs to remove though
For the convenience of not having to press a button on a fob or turning a physical key in an ignition barrel we now have to faff around with a steering lock straight of out the mid nineties to secure our cars.

I get a weekly email from the Police about crime in my area - and its almost 100% keyless car theft of nice motors, with 1 theft every night on the surrounding 2 estates. This week however was the 1st time they've ever mentioned a wifi jammer was also used to disable the victims camera. The incident was caught by other cameras on the road, so it was either limited range (most likely), or the opposite neighbour had a wired system.
This is the 1st confirmed jam I've seen reported - so wire those cameras folks !

Useful when you have push notifications to alert you, prove the theft for insurance/police and to get a timestamp. To get an ID, they aren't likely to help at all.
The police won’t do anything anyway unless they are driving by at the time. They just send you a crime number for you to claim against your insurance.

I agree about the mask however as a more positive experience a good friend of mine had a camera system and caught local scallies trying to break into his house. the system alerted him and he chased them off, but better than that, these nobwits had gone down the streat doing multiple properties.
they were caught on his camera and the police said It was his video which was instrumental in them finding out who did it.
however what, if any action was taken I dunno. he was never asked to go to court or anything.

I was not aware of 50 seconds to remove, I always thought it was much stronger than this.
Yea this is part of the problem.
Neighbours over the road has a posh Volvo that got nicked with some kind of handheld device in about 2 minutes at 4am.
Our CCTV caught the whole thing, downloaded to USB pen, gave it to neighbour.
Neighbour said police didn't even want it........
