Fallout 4 CPU benchmark thread(need some Zen3 and Zen4 results!)

I'm back... with a 7800X3D that I've had for a while XD.


Or not... those .ini files are gone from megaupload :(

I tried with just the ENB, but there seems to be some modifications that I can't figure out. My draw calls are about half of what they should be.

That's about the best I can do for now. Windows 11...

GPU is RTX 3060
CPU is 7800X3D 2200FCLK, -30 CO offset (makes no difference as CPU runs 5050Mhz regardless), 6230MT/s 28-35-36-28 memory 1.45V

Its a 20 year old game engine, Nvidia do better with these ancient broken unoptimized engines for the same reason AMD do better with modern DX12 engines, it's software asynchronous threading on Nvidia GPU's which AMD don't support and hardware asynchronous threading on AMD GPU's which Nvidia do not support.

They are not testing any of the X3D chips, with the 14900K being 5% ahead of the Ryzen 7600X, i'm always a bit suspect of people reviewing every CPU from the past couple of generations except the best ones from AMD.

I don't really trust anything that's on there.

Not sure about the CPUs.
Taking the 4090 for instance, current vs next gen and Intel 13900 vs AMD 7950X is:
current FO4 = 185 vs 173 = Intel was 7% faster.
next gen FO4 = 177 vs 155 = Intel is 11% faster.

Core scaling looks a bit better although a pity that they use a smaller selection of CPUs for that.

As for a new benchmarking thread? Well, wonder what kind of numbers we would get if we took the standard game, teleported to a suitable place, created a settlement and automation using what is the (current) base game, then teleported every recruitable NPC into that area? I.e. the worst possible CPU load.

Although despite the state of StarField, this kind of thread may make more sense there - although there are less SF resources out there (although even for Fallout 4 I find most fan Wikis very poor compared to uesp).

Oh, and some self-hosting spreadsheet or data table we can link in the OP even if it won't look as colourful as a full Excel worksheet.
 
This is really cool stuff. Is there anyone on the forum with Intel ARC GPUs? It'd be really interesting to see those results for this and the Oblivion benchmark.

I guess this benchmark is a bit more work than most. Not many ARC users I suspect. These benches started off on AT (link in post #1), and one of the GPU mods there does have am ARC and made a thread with what does and does not run:

What would make this benchmark interesting for Intel ARCs is that it largely measures driver CPU overhead.

That's what is so cool about these forum threads. Literally nowhere else have I seen draw call performance measured in an actual game that people play that can get complex enough to really push the limit. Like all the other Fallout 4 reviews just do a 5 minute fly through of Sanctuary and Concord. Which obv makes the numbers look really nice compared to what you get after actually making a settlement.

Oblivion can make modern CPUs cry with how ancient the code is. I remember enabling LOD models for every piece of architecture, and being royally disappointed by my new i7 6700k lmao. Was barely pushing to 13fps depending on the camera angle because of all the draw calls.

I'm really curious to see how intel's draw calls are. Because if they are actually better than AMD they might actually be worth buying for that.

Only one review site bothered doing settlement benchmarks and that was HardOCP. Some of the Polish websites tested parts of the cities which also seem to have push a heavier load. The other benchmarks were too light. But even with your Core i7 fast DDR4 would make a noticeable difference over slower RAM.

The reason I pushed this thread over on this forum,was a lack of modern CPU test results in the AT thread. Hopefully when the Zen5 CPUs are out we can check the results.

That was something Skylake showed in a lot of games IIRC, the boost from 2666mhz to 3000mhz was substantial. I got a 5800X3D because of this thread and the awesome info everyone contributed to.

Matter of fact, I have 3600Mhz DDR4 with my 5800X3D, and I would like to tune it. Trouble is making sure everything is rock solid stable. Any recommendations on a guide for this particular CPU? I'd be interested to see what I can push it to.
 
Damn that's a nice score even with the 5800X3D. Are there any bang for buck DDR4 RAM kits that can reach lower timings than CL20? Most that are 32GB per stick below CL20 are extortionate.

Edit: Just found something new. You can use NUMA settings in the BIOS to dedicate your OS to the non-X3D CCX, and other stuff to the CCX with the extra cache. This is the RAM I used with my 5800X3D.

Will test out that NUMA stuff tonight I managed to get a few more FPS by enabling the game bar - will try to remember to grab some new screenshots.
