Games are expensive, they take a long time to develop, consoles are getting expensive. It’s a far cry from the high point of the PS2 era IMO.

There’s still some good games out there but they need to make them more accessible not make them less so.

To be honest given Sony are now offering more games on PC I think that’s the way to play lots of them moving forwards.

I wouldn't be surprised if people start buying things on monthly payments like mobile phones etc.

It's somehow acceptable to spend over a grand on a phone but the idea of spending £700 on a console has people frothing.

Does the PS5 Pro even come with the 4k Bluray drive ? from the image they showed it had no drive so really if it allows a drive like the slim model then it is really £800 ... they are insane ..

The PS4 PRO I purchased with the Last of us part 2 for £350 and people were then also saying it was expensive, but compared to the none Pro it wasn't that much difference and had a larger update than even the PS5 PRO did compared to the ps4 vs ps4 pro.

They really have lost the plot and not sure if you have also noticed they bumped up the price of the controllers again and the vertical stand is extra too LOL for a bit of plastic that should come with it so to support the device as it was meant to be supported.. soon even the special power cables and hdmi cables will be optional extras. SONY !!! George Michael was right FONY!

If they don't drop prices this will be a huge fail, but we know what they are going to do as they did in Japan, raise the prices of the normal PS5 all around the world again. Sorry not interested in Sony's games and the stupid prices of games on their store where the physical versions of the same game are cheaper and their walled garden digital store is always the most expensive place to buy games... This is why they are trying to remove the drives and make them for now optional extras and soon PS6 will have no drive and force people to the digital store only. No thanks Sony....

Wait for the DF review they are Sony's,Intels,Nvidia's number one shills they will play what an amazing deal £700 pro is and really £800 with the optical drive. Sorry don't expect DF to be on the consumers side they have shown their true colours too many times when it comes to hardware reviews.
 
I think PS6 will undoubtedly be more that PS5 when it comes out, although I feel the Pro consoles have a different objective where they are selling to a core audience and therefore there is less pressure on the profit margins.

Still a fairly wow moment tonight seeing that price. Will watch with some interest at what the new features mean in the real world after its release.

Really? I've seen a number of preamble vids of theirs and they have been less than luke warm on what it is, what it can do and what actual games will show it off. I suspect even they cannot justify the price point.

I'm still agog why it is so expensive considering the primary difference is an extra TB of storage, a slightly updated GPU and then the lack of optical drive. Do these "hardware" updates really justify a £400 price difference between this and the OG PS5?
 
The only game I will need a PS5 for is GTA 6 and that isn't out for maybe 12 months.

If you add the cost of the vertical stand ($20) and the disk drive ($80) it is more like $800 or £800 LOL.

Is that the right way around? The bottom looks better to me tbh.

E: But HFW. Great game and I felt it and it's DLC showed the PS5 off well (having previously played the main story on the PS4 as well).

Can't see me fancying to buy yet another console to play it yet again

PS6 is going to be £800…it’s going to be £1k by PS7 easily. It’s just a mental barrier.

A few days ago Facebook reminded me I made a post complaint about phones being expensive at £700…now we seem to have settled at £1k being the cost of entry for a flagship.

I want to say if that happens i might just give up gaming lol

You don't need to let the existence of something you don't want to buy influence your mood so much.

Just don't buy it and move on with your life.

I did want to buy... I purchased the original ps5 when it came out and it bricked out of the box on the first update and returned and they had to refund because no stock and scalpers... I also still own a PS4 PRO and decided when I got refunded on the PS5 Brick version to wait for the PRO model as I hated the design which I still do but want a PS5 PRO and was going to buy one but not at this price.. they are insane...

I was actually looking forward to it today and honestly Sony has saved my wallet from this insanity... £700 for the pro, £100 for a optical drive that should come with it £70 for a second controller and £30 for the vertical stand..... Plus I would have purchased the dual controller charger .. what's that at now £50 too? so really they saved me £950... not even including a 4TB drive I would have added at £300 ... So total saved today is £1250... Thanks Sony.

Also forgot to add I would want the black side plates not this silly white colour so again what another £50-60 ? £1300 right there for a console now to be complete and with the right amount of storage it needs for these games that now chew 150GB or more to install or download. This is why I stopped buying the digital versions as it took forever to download but even some games on physical media don't have the game on the disc but sends you to the store to download it... why ? Then the huge updates. That's why I need a minimum of 4TB extra storage as it comes with 1TB..but really less as the os takes up 20-30% of the drive and needs space for updates as they will not update without some extra space needed.

Real cost right there what it would cost with all the bits needed and updated 4TB drive £1300. Meeh

It will use the same disc drive as the slim.

What price were you expecting?

You need to just get less emotionally invested. This is a niche product. It's not a next gen console.

If you want the best console at the current time you can splash the cash. If not. The current crop is fine.

Its like getting all worked up because an RTX4090 is expensive. It is.. But nvidia have alternatives.
