£550 with the optical drive for the PS5 PRO... The PS4 Pro was £350 with last of us part 2. The price of the PS4 original on release was £350, the slim on release was £250, then the PS4 PRO came out £100 more than the PS4 Slim and with a game.

The PS5 slim with optical drive is £450-480 when not on sale, on sale can be found for £400 and two controllers and a game.

Also the PS4 to PS4 Pro was a larger hardware update than what PS5 to PS5 PRO is. So why do they think they can ask double the price now ? It really is £800 with the optical drive .. apples to apples here .. So if we do what they did back in PS4 days the PS5 PRO should be now max £550 with the optical drive.
How do you literally know the PS4 Pro is the bigger upgrade? We have seen next to nothing of what the PS5 Pro can do, just some older games that have been tweaked to remove FPS caps, increase LOD and such.

I agree that way you feel it is a PRO model at least then with double the storage of the SLIM and an optical drive. £700 with the optical drive.

2TB SSD, two controllers in the box and the stand and maybe some code for a cheap game of your choice on the store, doesn't have to be a latest AAA game just some game so people can play right away if they have no games, then the £700 could work at the start but later it would still need to come down to £650 etc etc.

What it is priced at now is not real and will fail badly for SONY..

It's only a fail if they don't profit on it.

People like yourself hoping for everything bundled aren't the kind of people to buy this product.

Splash the cash on a gpu or something if you find that better value.

699 for a digital is a swift F U to the console gaming community.
I really hope folk don't pay this ridiculous price, if they do you know what the price is next gen consoles will be
To be fair, this is the enthusiast model so they can make it more expensive. The PS6 has to be some what reasonably priced to get people to shift from their PS5’s.

Read my system specs and as I said I purchased a PS4 PRO... and was waiting for the PS5 PRO... will ignore you now as I feel you are trolling ...sorry no time for blaa blaa. I am the person these devices target as I am the person that buys them. I want a PS5 PRO also to keep my many purchases on their digital store that can only be used on a PS4/PS5 device and that is a huge investment they also trap you in and I want another device that can use them, PS6 may have zero compatibility with PS4 or even PS5. We don't know yet.

System in spec is a dual 3090 NVLINK/SLI... not the person lol...

For me the main issue above and beyond pricing is that I don’t think Sony have done a particularly good job of selling the upgraded system.

They’ve basically said we can run some games games at 60fps instead of 30fps and have left it at that. In most of the trailers they showed it barely looked any better than the standard console IMO.

I’d hoped to see a larger jump in visual fidelity than simply selling it as being able to run games in base ps5 quality graphics mode at 60fps.

Very few people are going to upgrade their existing systems or pay £300 over the price of the regular ps5 for that alone.

I wonder if Sony will release a ps5 disc version as it seems like a right faff having to buy a new console, an add-on optical drive and then having to dismantle the console to fit it when it arrives?

Haha so 3090sli is a good buy and a ps5 pro is not.

Righto. I'm the troll haha.

I agree the announcement was pretty poor. Cerny’s good at what he does, but he’s hardly a salesman. Though i expect things will wind up in the coming weeks.

It is for work the 3090 NVLINK/SLI setup... as they were purchased for that... Console is for gaming in a locked walled garden in the case of SONY..

One I make my income on, one I throw money at for entertainment .. You are defending a doubling in price from the PS5 SLIM model with a optical drive, for the PS5 PRO model with an optical drive...

Where in the past ps4 slim was £250 and PRO was £350 and with a game.

Do you not see the problem ?

What problem? Buy the Slim. Sony are not boxing you into a corner here.

No promises regarding third party support nor any announcements of new games with ps5 pro specific graphics effects/etc.

It all feels very low effort on Sonys part .

I also find it a bit odd that Sony cited the fact most players opt for performance modes over fidelity modes in games. I actually suspect the main reason for that is most gamers don’t really notice much of a visual improvement in the fidelity mode rather than because they desperately want the higher frame rate!

Can't wait until the 26th :-) and btw yes you are all right none of you should buy it (at least I have a chance then of getting one if the scalpers are out.)

I doubt there will be any scalpers (even over Xmas) given the price of the system and the fact that it doesn’t run anything the regular ps5 can’t so there’s no element of FOMO.

What else can they use as a selling point. PS4 Pro had the 4k angle. Sony are going for the play games at 60 with the fidelity of 30 pitch.

I dunno man, you complain about Sony’s prices then say you’ll buy a Switch 2 from Nintendo, the king of high priced games and underpowered hardware.

It’s a fair point. But I think it is also fair to say there’s degrees of over priced.

Nintendo hardware serves a purpose and allows for a versatile experience with some quirky functionality and access to various Nintendo franchises.

I should also state that my only reason for considering a switch 2 is it would fill a gap in my gaming setup and my hope is that it will be enough of a step forwards over the Switch at a reasonable price point to justify the purchase. If it isn’t, I won’t buy one, or I’ll pick one up 2nd hand.

Re over priced games, I rarely buy full price these days so that isn’t too much of a concern.

As for the usefulness of the PS5 Pro, that remains to be seen. More power to the folks who want to buy one, it’s their money and they can spend it how they please.

For me personally my gaming needs don’t justify it, and it likely won’t bring enough added value to my gaming experience to justify the purchase. Id have considered it as an impulse purchase if it were cheaper, but it isn’t, so I’m content to pass and stick with a base PS5.

Whereas a switch 2 will fill a gap, namely mobile gaming capability and a game catalogue I can more readily play with family. It’s more valuable to me personally, underpowered hardware and all :)

I’m not sure but I’d wager most gamers can barely tell (or aren’t bothered by) the difference between fidelity and performance modes in terms of the visuals so it seems like a very poor sales pitch to tempt existing owners to upgrade imo.

Kind of shocked how little game footage Sony showed in that tech preview. Be interesting to see if they announce anything else in the coming weeks before the ps5 pro launches.

Seems pretty expensive and it seems unclear what the actual point of it is; different if they were able to say here we've got GTA 6 on it and it ***** all over the PS5 / Series X but it doesn't seem like there's anything like that yet anyway.
