Aurora Borealis red alert for the Uk tonight.

There is a slim chance we will get a repeat of May's Aurora this evening!
Very slim. Probable G4 coming tomorrow as a result of the two storms coming towards us. But this could all change, it was all expected last weekend as well but everything just faded away.

We've got kp8.5 predicted tonight here, the absolute highest I've seen since living here butttttt... Big but, it's peeing down and cloudy for the next 72h....

So bloody annoying.

I'll stick my head out periodically incase of a miracle

At least it's not snowing

Been getting red alerts here from Aurora watch for the past three hours (214.0nT/669.1nT/513.6nT) and as usual it's raining with a very low cloudbase exactly the same as it was the other night (Monday?) when it was a red alert for most of the night.

Had look outside but couldn't see anything, wil have to try taking a photo and see if it shows anything up

I'm in pitch black taking that photo. You can see a white glow on the horizon but none of the colour. iPhone 15 camera....ta da.
Looks like the time to be out was 19:30 to 20:00 ish. Nothing here on the east coast.

The HF bands shut down like a light being switched off around 19:10 but Au reached 2m.

I find it amusing how some people on social media have been saying things along the lines of it being visible to the naked eye and then following it up by saying they had to look through their camera. That's not the naked eye :D

Saw it really clearly with the naked eye from my garden about an hour ago. Typical that both of my DSLRs have packed in! (First time getting them out for a few years, d'oh!)

Couldn't really see it with the eye (just a faint glow) but the phone cam in night mode picked this up.
