Next England Manager

I remember Sven getting stick, Capello not so much, but assuming the majority of the outcry now is due to him being German.

A sports game that we invented, that forms part of national identity, that means a lot to all of us, which can't be downplayed. A game where we unite together as a nation to support them passionately. A bunch of players that represent our COUNTRY, should therefore be English fairly obviously. But the coach...the leader.... can be from anywhere on earth. Ok then.

Fair enough, what is your opinion on domestic teams?

We don't want a player from Norwich representing OUR city of Leeds, and being lead by a manager from Exeter!

That's something much more complex because the English 1st Division (before the premier league was formed) has morphed from an English domestic style league from back in its roots, to the best football club league in the world, aka the premier league. There is so much money in it now, it has become very much an entertainment business which will attract world wide talent, investment and people.
Of course, wind the clock back (a lot) and if you played Liverpool, you would most likely play against a bunch of scousers etc. But look at the UK now. Decades of mass immigration... What is being "from Liverpool" now?

We wouldn't appoint a German sergeant to lead us into war. Why is that?
Imagine if we play Germany as well. It's stupid.

:p

Honestly @jaybee - no English manager has ever won the English Premier League, so why d'you think one would be the best choice to lead the English national side?

Good press conference - a refreshing change from Southgate.

Interesting reaction from the likes of Neville and Carragher to this, saying it's harder than ever for English managers and we don't have an identity.

The reality is the various English managers are just not that great, who is there? Potter and Howe. Good managers but not massively exciting...

I think it's a great appointment really, 18 months of pure focus on trying to win the World Cup with a top manager. I don't think he'll be upsetting people, he's not with the players that frequently, and he handles the media very well.

Having delved into Tuchels past it appears he managed Mainz which are mid table side like a West ham/ Brentford /Crystal Palace ect. From there he got a job at Dortmund. That simply does not happen in England for whatever reason.

Oh crap yes fair enough. Not sure Howe counts though. Newcastle aren't on par with Dortmund. Generally though i just think there are too many variables that determine success in football, to pin it on one man is madness but its the done thing seemingly.
Newcastle will be now in terms of (oil) money etc
