Caffeine Detox Time

Ah man. I’m a caffeine addict, drink 3x double espresso per day when at work, sometimes four.

You just keep going until you have to up the dose. Once had a vile of Redbull caffeine powder handed out free at the train station but wasn’t for me. Work has free professional machines so you can’t argue.

Only when I’m on holidays do I cut down, because I don’t need to use the brain as much and not ready access to coffee machines.

Need something stronger that espresso, like a more concentrated version.

Accidentally kicked it end of 22/start of 23 when I had COVID and haven't touched it since, can't say I've noticed much difference, though aside from giving me headaches if I didn't get my fix it never really did much for me - definitely didn't affect my sleeping or help me to wake up, etc.

Been weaning myself off over the last few weeks, down to 1 caffeinated drink in the morning now. Tomorrow I'm going down to 1 morning green tea for a few days before coming off completely.

I quit coffee once as a new year resolution.

After 24 hours I got bad headaches, which did go after a few hours.

Then I got really constipated, which didn't go :(

One cup of coffee later and everything was running smoothly, and has been since :)

is it that bad? two brothers sentenced to death were given a reprieve if one drank loads of coffee and the other drank loads of tea for the rest of their lives.. the tea drinker died first...

Coffee contains a good amount of fibre. Turns out, for a lot of people it's their main source of fibre so if they stop drinking it...

Decaf, decaf, decaf, as you say. It's not exactly caffeine free but near enough. No point going full anticoffee to me, given the benefits of dem roasted beans.

I've been off fully leaded coffee since October and much happier for it. Can't say I notice much difference day to day now, just don't need a coffee to start the day/feel like I must have some before any form of exercise. Well, tell a lie.. I do still have a decaf in the morning, but that's more of a ritual thing and if I miss it, I don't "miss" it. This is opposed to when I was caffeinemaxing, where I would be, tired, angry and feeling a killer headache by lunch.

Funnily enough I think I get a bit of a placebo from decaf, now I know it has 5-10% of the caffeine of normal coffee, but I do feel slightly brighter and clearer for having had one, nothing major, hence the placebo suspicion. Anyone else get this?

Out of interest - and possibly answered in this thread but I'm lazy af and I'm not afraid to admit it - why do you go in and out of it @LiE, is this some sort of cafcycling performance enhancing routine I have missed :p?

Some people cycle caffeine to reset their tolerance. For most (myself included) its the difficulty of breaking the addiction that results in the cycle. Caffeine produces an effect and that can be addictive - it makes you feel good, some get a buzz depending on the dose. The addictive nature is why I imagine drinks like Coke and Pepsi have it as an ingredient - it isn't for the flavour.

You have to think, we all did pretty well up until adolescence before touching caffeine - but now many can't function without. I've said it before, if we all took our caffeine in powder or pill form we would probably be very aware of the dependency. We'd be popping pills all day long.

https://www.reddit.com/r/decaf/ is good to dip into for like minded people on this topic.

I've dropped down to 1 caffeine a day recently accidentally. But I'm so nullified to caffeine it does like nothing now. I probably should detox to get it to be a good buzz again.

I want to start drinking decaf again. I love the taste and really fancy a coffee in the afternoon. The issue is that I cannot sleep if I have one after 12pm or so.

Warm drinks can have a small but not negligible effect on circulation which helps and decaf teas and coffee contain other compounds which can effect your cognitive functions.

I've kicked caffeine 2.5 years ago and not really seen much difference aside from not getting the headaches if I went more than ~16 hours without and for some reason seem to be slightly more sociable since - not massively so but noticeable difference.

I don't drink coffee and rarely energy drinks so this is exactly how I consume mine and like you say it makes it very clear when I need to cut back. Once I hit needing 2 full tablets (400mg) to get through the day then I know it's time to knock it back. Generally 100mg at the moment gives me plenty of go without rolling into anxiety territory.
