Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

If the amount of power up sessions we keep getting carries on I will literally never switch from octopus.

We are saving a fortune at the moment with that.

Those on Octopus Tracker, do you think its still worth it? I have until mid Feb to decide if I'm moving to the new Dec24 tariff....

Crystal ball really... europe has diversified it's supply so shouldn't be as affected by the russian special operations.

It's served me well and I held on but kind of regret it now. Could have locked in gas for 5.6p for 12m a few months ago and has rarely been below that.

I would probably jump. I fixed around 3 months ago at 5.4 and so glad I did. Saved me a fair bit compared to tracker.

Yay, finally on an EV charging package with Eon. 6.7p between 12-7am isn’t too bad at all. Now just need to push as many things into that window as I can. Dishwasher has a timer, will put the dehumidifiers on timers. Hot tub can do filter cycles at night. Will heat the hot tub up at midnight too when I warm it up for weekend use. Should save a bit.

The value of the tracker seems to have eroded massively over time as they’ve tweaked the formula. It’s served me well but I think I’m going to fix now as the savings become more incremental and the downsides get bigger.

Its got worse for sure, but compounding the issue was lack of nuclear generation, low wind and winter has limited sun, therefore gas demand is high and expensive.

Being on the tracker is a balancing act and tbh winter hasn't been too bad atm, i'm going to see what this summer brings before i make any decisions, still saved significant sums of money vs being on a fixed tariff. :)

Tracker has got to have been below 20p average for 2024. Hard to say without consumption data.

Octopus compare is good and will tell you but for annual you need to describe

Tracker gas was 5.6p for 2024 for me. I’m on agile elec

35p p/kWh for us on the tracker tomorrow.

Fortunately it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so our solar system should take the edge off.

It’s no that tracker has errroded it’s that it’s the reality of the market.

You want to be on tracker in a dropping market, fixed in a rising or stable market.

Tracker is just acting more like you'd expect it to now prices have normalised.

This. Prices have flattened out so you’d expect tracker average to roughly reflect the price cap.

Back down to 22.55p tomorrow so just a blip thankfully.

Average electric unit price this year for Dec 23 tracker in my region has been 18.67p and gas has been 4.64p so has worked well.

The Dec 24 only has 1 month of data but is currently averaging 22.35p and 6.18p.

Octopus 14M Fixed January 2025 v1 is 23.26p and 6.08p. Gas has been pretty stable on tracker so will likely switch that to fixed, not sure on Electric yet but its pretty close.

Switched over from agile to intelligent go today, car needs a charge anyway, will stay on it for a few days until it gets windy again and move back again to agile.

I do like how easy this is to do.
