'Europe's biggest battery farm' built on coal mine

Almost 90% of the electricity generated in Scotland last year was from low carbon sources like wind, solar or nuclear, according to figures from the Scottish government.

Scotland certainly leading the way within the UK for decarbonising Elec generation... The proper figures wont be out until March but reportedly Scotland is still a large NET exporter of electricity with 33% of its generation exported.

The model for Scotland is effectively the UKs net zero strategy. They export enough renewables to rUK to cover their fossil fuel usage.

The idea is to scale that up U.K. wide and export via the interconnects to Europe.

Yes i'm starting to think Tracker has served its purpose for me just now. Might start looking into a fix and not worry about it.
(worry as in not care, not start crying :p )
I've been on it for 2 years I think now and if you can ignore the prices and check each month to make sure the average hasn't crept up it's still a good offer!

Yesterday's blip makes you feel like it's super expensive but if you check your bill as long as the average price per unit is less than what offer you can get elsewhere you're still saving.

Out of interest, as I'm trying to work out if my daily gas usage is high (I feel my boiler is eating gas), what's your daily gas usage like?

Currently, having the hot water for 3 hours per day & central heating on for a similar time, we're using about 45-50 kWh in gas? On the Tracker it's equating to about £2.50-£3.00 per day + SC

Looking back at my bill last year (on the same Tracker), it's a similar usage in kWh, but that was with having the HW cylinder always heated, yet this year I've had to put it on a schedule for only 3-4 hours per day?

Still haven't decided whether to jump ship off of the Tracker or not in February.

The hot water cylinder only heats up for as long as it takes to fill it, your boiler probably heats it from empty to full in 40 mins to an hour it will then stop until the temperate drops below a certain threshold as set on the tank thermostat.

We are also in a cold snap, you'd expect has usage to be double what it was at the end of December because of the difference in outside temperature.

The only way to really tell is to estimate the heat loss of your building using a tool like Heatpunk and that way you can workout how many kwh's you need to heat it.

3-4 bed terraced house, combi boiler with radiators on TRVs with moderate settings (set to 2 on most which is about 20c I think), using about 30-40 on cold days. Today is especially cold and we've used 54.9kWh of gas so far. I think your usage is sort of okay? I'm running the boiler on 35c flow temp which is pretty low but I run the heating for longer so it feels a more natural heat than having a high flow temp where the radiators give a kind of burning smell heat and go off quickly once the temperature is reached.

Looking at my Octopus daily usage the heating has been on since 5am nonstop, using about 1.5kWh every half hour.

Have a friend with a draughty home (but is semi detached) who uses about 100kWh in a day on cold ones, with a higher flow temp at 50-55c. Just the nature of the house it needs more heat to stay relatively warm.

87kwh atm. Heating has been on all day set to 18

Seems OK to me.

Thanks for all the info. Very useful comparison.

For reference, I'm in a 4-bed detached, with a lot of the TRV's on very low (1-2) in some rooms that aren't being used with others on 3-4, so it's interesting to see what you guys are using. Electric I'm not too worried about as I have to use it as I work from home, but normally my PC heats the room well enough :D

don't they have a lot more wind.

hope this gets built

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority believes the project could generate enough clean, predictable energy to power hundreds of thousands of homes for 120 years.
But there are concerns the barrage could hamper or slowdown ferries running to and from Liverpool – including those from the island.

Partly the reason but a large part is also the amount of renewables that have been built which far outshines the rUK.

I believe this is mostly due to planning regs and NIMBYism in those areas. Your link below is a good example of this.

Do you have solar/battery as well to offset the electric cost?
Yes, and more importantly at this time of year, a time of use tariff.

The average price I have paid for electricity so far this month is 9.4p/kwh.

Even without that, it’s equivalent cost to running a gas boiler at price cap prices (if slightly less).
