What I'm curious about is the reference 9070xt and 9070 against the AIBs.
AMDs branding slide seemed to position it against a few different cards, and the leaks seem to suggest the reference card with a far lower TGP than the AIBs. Some AIBs have an extra 8-pin. Almost like there will be tiers within tiers for those cards.

Reminds me of how Nvidia cards used to be. Of course you still get overlocked variants of Nvidia cards now but I remember for example the performance difference between an FE 980ti and some of the AIB cards was pretty big.
That was going from blower fan to axial fans though, the difference between a reference tri-fan heatsink and third party these days wouldn't be anywhere near as much. The oems will probably get more out of it with a larger heatsink that takes up more slots, but not as much compared to what they used to.
Based on Frank Azor's recent interview, the 9070 is up against the 5070 and the 9070XT will be going up against the 5070TI. Unless I misunderstood him? I suspect the lower TDP MBA models will be just under £500 and give 7900 XT raster and 4070Ti RT. The higher TDP AIB models may end up competing with the 5070Ti in raster at least. So about £150 cheaper than the 5070Ti and that would be right around the £599 you have guessed.
Like most of us, I also suspect AMD thought the 5080 and below were going to be a fair bit more powerful. Unless Nvidia are trolling us all with those figures.

Actual benchmarks are going to be spicy. If the leaks are correct and the 9070xt comes out the week before the 50 series, it's going to be interesting times.
Agreed. The 5080 is going to be stuck in limbo. At the very least it needed to have 24GB of RAM.

I would say nvidia will squeeze a little more out of it over time through drivers, the small uplift this gen will put them on a little pressure there.
But I thought 12GB was plenty, 10GB was absolutely fine was the feedback no?

The German source below actually shows AMD cards outselling NV ones in Q1 2024 - take with a pinch of salt, as it's just based on one retailer who may have a vendor alignment (I know nothing about them). As @eeii and @NZXT30 said above, I suspect the real volume is in OEM desktops and laptops... we as PC builders are merely the sideshow
To answer your specific question for that time period, looks like it's roughly 45% share for the 4070+S vs. 55% for the 7800XT. I'm sure you could dig back historically to build up a full data set if you really wanted to

Just looking at AMD sales alone, there's a lot of VRAM based decision making. It's surprising to see the 7600XT selling more than the 7600. The 6800 smokes the 7700XT.

Ill be honest, i'm aiming at £1000 for an entry level 5080. But if AMD can knock out a decent price on a 9070xt and it performs that level than Ill probably swap to that. If AMD can provide a good case of diminishing returns. 40% more money for only 20% more performance on a 5080 would make me reconsider it and then i'd rather save money now and maybe upgrade to an X3D CPU sooner than later.

Scream as loudly as you can about it to make everyone aware of it, and how it will impact their games in the future, only for them to completely ignore you and they come back in 10 months complaining they can't run the game?
Sounds like a smart play. It might be 20% extra but considerably more for RT on the 5080, which muddies the waters, for me at least.

Yeh, I weighed it up and decided RT doesn't bother me in the slightest, I mainly play online games and nothing is of the level to make it better for online games yet, and half the ones I play don't even support it.
Any single player game ill just turn settings from Epic to High, the difference is virtually non existent for significantly better performance.
But yeh, defo can't wait for the reviews, ill probably auto-buy a 5080 if I can then return if for a 9070xt if i go that route, I suspect the reviews will be out after it launches, and I expect there to be shortages on Nvidia but AMD will be plentiful.
We will see though.

They better hurry up. All the retailers websites now have all the Blackwell advertising up. Overclockers.co.uk homepage is all nvidia right now.
