I'm also along those lines..I don't care much for Twitter, but this doesn't pass the sniff test in terms of censorship. If OCUK want to ban Twitter/X no problem, ban any links to other social media platforms, they are all as bad as each other anyway - or at least have the risk/capacity to be.
Regardless I like the moderation on OCUK as it's clear, simple and evenly applied, I can't say the same for many of those other platforms e.g. Twitter, Reddit etc. Having recently register on Bluesky, it's honestly just another vacuous platform.
Have you looked at the poll? 55% of people want it banned. Strange for a "right wing" forum.
Interesting. What constitutes a reliable source of information? We can't pretend that main stream news outlets don't get things wrong and don't misrepresent things. And lets be honest any corrections they issue is usually late or in the corner of the article. The purpose of this thread is to determine if we (the community, not just the mods) believe that X should be allowed as a reliable source of information.
It’s mindblowing that you would take that as the intention of this thread.
I’ll be succinct; we don’t care about Elon Musk. We don’t care what he did recently. The timing is pure coincidence.
So you think the factual state of information on X is on a par with the BBC? That's actually hilarious.I'm also along those lines..
There is so much misinformation in the media these days, who the hell can claim they are the arbiter of what is true and not true?
In fact looking at the absolutely dire state of the BBC/Guardian/GBNews/CH4/SKY/.Facebook etc, if you want to remove linking to one, remove it to them all..
We have laws for free speech, let the powers that be decide if/when to ban X.. then we can remove linking to it..
Otherwise, be an adult and if you are able to recognise your flavour of misinformation on social media, do us a favour and stop assuming we are all stupider than thou and need saving from ourselves..
I’m resisting the urge to do this!I'm so out of touch I'm going to Google bluesky for the first time...
So you think the factual state of information on X is on a par with the BBC? That's actually hilarious.
I agree there's a massive amount of conflict of interest given the owner and their connection to a world power government but, any internet service can be used as a propaganda tool and Twitter isn't being used in that way in it's entirety - there's still (currently) plenty of decent factual information being posted on it.Can you not recognise the unique danger of Twitter as a propaganda tool?
That's my biggest gripe, the display of embedded media...it's huge!/thread

oh yeah I am bias to the right. What did you think I was going to claim to be smackdown in the middle or something? But that has nothing to do with what I am saying
Are the people you are referring to self professed to being mentally distraught over the things you have listed? If yes, then they should take a break from the internet.
I fully remember your name and I know you were one of the people having a bit of mental crisis over Donald Trump. So allow me to say to you what I didn't say back then. Take a break from the internet. For your own good.
Many subreddits have decided to no longer allow linking to X / Twitter. I personally think Overclockers should also no longer allow linking to X. What say you?
The front page was...I’m resisting the urge to do this!
Even if that was the case and needed amending, do you honestly think we’d ask for opinions on if we should ban twitter based on members impressions of the owner and not think “That has to be a typo”?Did you miss the bit where Feek edited the OP? It was literally the specific intent of the thread.
It's as unbiased and impartial as you're going to get. It looks like a very high correlation on here of those who are anti BBC being pro X. Hardly surprising though.I don't, but I certainly don't treat it as unbiased and impartial. If we ban one source of propaganda then it's unfair not to ban others
No they should not have been banned and they were more dangerous than Twitter, their sole purpose was state funded propaganda, I get people are idiots, but they should have the freedom to be idiotsShould the UK government not have censored RT? What about CGTN? Twitter is far more dangerous than either of those.
No - X should stay; however many sub reddits should be burned to the ground and those who access them watched closelyMany subreddits have decided to no longer allow linking to X / Twitter. I personally think Overclockers should also no longer allow linking to X. What say you?
