Dragon Age: The Veilguard

I think the main problem that messed things up for Veilguard was actually much bigger than the gender identity/politics stuff and it's an issue that has been plaguing the entire videogames industry for years now.

Basically over the past 10-15 years there has been a narrative put out (mostly by game developer/studios) that videogames are a form of art. The result of this and the perceived acceptance of it has been that a significant amount of people have become game developers/writers/etc who previously would have become a filmmaker or an artist, and the problem here is that those people are not adjusting their mindsets/approach for making videogames.

If you're making modern art then the goal is not to sell a thousand prints the goal is to get it exhibited so you can get it in front of the elitist types who attend modern art galleries to get off on the fact that they are intelligent/cultured enough to appreciate how artistic a banana duct taped to a canvas is, and pay stupid amounts to own it.

If you're making a niche film and filling it with your personal politics/identity stuff/etc then it doesn't matter if it nobody watches it and it doesn't make any money as that wasn't your goal, your goal was to get it in front of the elitist types who attend French film festivals and get off on the fact that they are intelligent/cultured enough to appreciate high brow cinema not understood by the unwashed masses, thus giving you notoriety in these circles and often money.

The problem is when this "it's okay if most people don't appreciate my vision as long as somebody wants to" approach comes to videogames there is nobody to pick up the slack, nobody is going to give you £100k for a copy of your bad £70 game simply because they want people to think they "get it" more. Nobody is going to pay you a million dollars to have your game exclusive to their LANparty. They are not the same worlds and even if people like that did exist it wouldn't matter anyway because you didn't make the game for <£100, it was financed by a studio for tens or even hundreds of millions.

That's the core cause of why Veilguard and many like it failed.

For the life of me I can’t understand why..

Lol

There's a few on the forum who were still touting it's a GREAT GAME, nothing wrong with it....

And here we are, it bombed bad and pretty much all of the team have gone. But I'm sure they will blame the Youtubbers and Streamers and not the actual people behind the game

I don't think many have said it's a legitimately good game, at most I usually see people calling it average at best while flawed.

That's about what I would call it if it weren't a Dragon Age game, but given it is part of that IP I rate it as pretty awful.

I thought it'd be interesting to see who is contributing (lmfao) to this thread so here we go. Neil, you need to have a lie down fella, this can't be good for you. I know the anti-woke culture wars are very real for you but come on.

Yeah, I’ve gotta try harderer.
Maybe change my name to Jonifer and get a nose ring and purple hair, idk?

Apparently watching him talk " Bioware isn't representing diversity and inclusion " and " I don't think Bioware is on my side "

Really? You had pretty much an entire game devoted to this utter tripe and you weren't represented? geesh!

And of those people, who:

1) actually played the game?
2) went on to complete the game?
