These cards will be £500-£600 and £700-£800 respectively, and that's only because of the "aggressive" 5000-series pricing from Nvidia.
If there's a surprise to come, it'll be on performance rather than pricing, with AMD actually delivering the sort of performance improvement you would expect from next generation parts at those prices. It wouldn't be the biggest shock if the 9070 winds up performing in line with (or beating) the 5070 Ti.
If you look at the latest TPU figures,if the RX9070 is around RX7900XT level performance:
1.)It will be 29% faster than a £480 RX7800XT
2.)It will be 17% faster than a £520 RX7900GRE
The RX7800XT was 47% faster than an RX6700XT and the RX6700XT was 33% faster than an RX6700XT.
To be considered a normal generation improvement,it would need to be at least 30% faster than the card it replaces:
1.)Priced at £500 maximum and be around RX7900XT performancer
2.)Priced well above £520 it would need to be closer to an RX7900XTX
If it ends up being closer to £550 and RX7900XT level performance,it would literally be under a 10% price/performance improvement over an RX7900GRE. Plus the RX7900XT dipped below £600 last year.
This is what happened last generation - AMD priced relative to the awful RTX4000 series pricing. It was only the RX7800XT which seemed to be OKish in terms of price/performance at RRP.
But this is what makes no sense about AMD delaying their cards.
Nvidia's cards clearly aren't coming out with stellar performance improvements lol
Just what we're AMD wanting to launch at
It makes sense if:
1.)They are rushing out BIOSes so they can push more performance
2.)Pricing relative to Nvidia in performance after seeing the reviews and amount of supply
This is what they did with the RX7900XT. Once they saw rumours of the RTX4080 12GB,they probably jacked the price up. Only that time,Nvidia relaunched it as a cheaper RTX4070TI 12GB.
A simple 30% over an RX7800XT would mean the RX7900XT would be under £500 and still be cheaper than an RTX5070. So if they were truly going after value, they probably would have launched by now.
This time they can price relative to Nvidia with more confidence. I would like to be wrong, but just look at the Zen5 pricing too. Maybe their pricing will surprise me in a positive way.
