Road Cycling

@grudas Thanks a lot. I always use Strava for my routing as i often steal local rides i see, and then it syncs to my Garmin, but maybe Komoot is the way forward.

yeah I try to use strava too as I paid for it but it does lack some basic features imo, especially when it comes to routes. Komoot is good for finding local stuff too and depending on which garming you've got, you can download the komoot app to it and go from there. Even easier. You don't have to tho, courses do sync to the general "courses" list anyway.

What's the general consensus here on getting a professional Bikefit for a new road bike?

Got a new bike and awaiting my pedals/SPDs, Reddit is full of people that wouldn't ride a bike without it or would never spend money on it
Best money i've ever spent, but relies upon having a good fitter as there are so many about nowadays. I had my first fit in 2014 and generally that's the base point for any new bike I get, I had another done a couple of years ago, but that was just for my TT bike, should probably go and get an updated road bike fit.

Am I the only one struggling with some good/convienent storage on the bike?

I have a saddle bag but that gets in the way of my light mouting spot so I don't particulary enjoy it.

I have a bottle cage storage bottle but that takes away my 2nd cage and leaves me running dry on fluids on longer rides

I sorta am coming to the conclusion that no storage is best and I may get a small pouch and just throw the stuff I need in there and then dump it my jersey pocket. Oddly, I can barely feel anything in there anyway.

what do you lot run? I don't like or want any frame bags either.

what do you need the bag for?
is that for whode days in the saddle ?

I've stopped using under saddle small bag with the new bike - exposure tail light is mounded under the saddle now - and moved back to old tool wallet that i keep in rear pocket.

I know that few people use bottle tool holder - i dont use it as I drink a fair amount on the bike on longer days.

have used handebar bag for a longer wile on longer days, easy access from bars etc.

I really like my Silca Mattone as small enough to hold everything for a roadside fix

I was debating buying a Rock Bro's tool pouch on, you guessed it, Ali Express. They look big enough to fit a few essentials in and toss in a jersey pocket.

My saddle doesn't allow the mounting of my mattone saddle bag due to the rail shape. I have just been chucking the essentials in my jersey back pockets. Multi tool, dynaplug, CO2. I could chuck a spare tube but honestly I can just call the support car if its that bad.

it's for my tools/spares

tube
multi tool
puncture repair kit
cable ties - never know when you need
mini inflator
and a pair of rubber gloves in case it gets very exciting

so not a lot, and my thinking it that'd it'd sit nice in a small-ish pouch in my jersey.

Got a little saddle bag on my road bike as it's just 2 tpu tubes, tyre levers and small multi tool. Pump goes in my pocket. Then on my gravel and mtb I have a bar bag that has about 6 inner tubes, co2 inflator, pump, tool, levers, probably some other rubbish stuck in there too. is good for stuffing stuff in or behind such as gloves in the winter.

I still run a small (ish) saddle bag for spares, though on both bikes my pump is mounted off the seat tube bottle cage bolts.

I like a bag on each bike as it means I always have it. When I used to share stuff between bikes, I've gone out and forgotten things. I had to borrow a pump from another cycling once when a tyre went soft during a ride. The one exception on sharing is a Lyzene Caddy Sack (medium) for my phone, in which I also keep some money and a Dynaplug Racer (with extra plugs)

For big days, I add a top tube bag for extra food. The Apidura is good as it uses magnets to close, so dead easy to open and grab a bar or whatever.

I've also got a smaller Deuter bag which is zipped but handy for some extra gels.

it's for my tools/spares

tube - go tubless
multi tool - i only carry one as it has dynaplug adapter in it, otherwise i wouldn't...
puncture repair kit - no need with tubless
cable ties - never know when you need - light so why not...I have Hiplok Z Lok with me for cafe stops etc
mini inflator - I've got a small pump and considering the electric one...
and a pair of rubber gloves in case it gets very exciting- wax chain so less dirt is being attached to the whole of the drive train :)

so not a lot, and my thinking it that'd it'd sit nice in a small-ish pouch in my jersey- small wallet thingy and your are golden :)

anyone from here ever did Chase th sun ?

or cycled 330-370km in one go? ( mine max was 216 I think)
really hoping to get it done this year...original route is 330km but doesnt really start on the east coast ;) so we were thinking starting in Broadstairs - making it 370km ride

need to avg at least 24-25kmh for the whole lenght. slowest part would be going through London...traffic, lights, people hating cyclists...

Nope but my friend and I were talking about it recently as the end point, WSM, is only 45 minutes from us.

Though I think I'd rather try the Mallorca 312 but beggars/choosers etc.

45mins by bike ? got a spare room for tired cyclists at the end? LOL

wonder if we will do it...pain to get to tht start point without a car ... i will be doing some convincing

Yeah, I was going to suggest using Komoot as it lets you simply change the starting point.
Very easy recommendation - same for RWGPS.

Move your light? Seems the easiest choice at the moment... Zero cost option?! ;)

I don't struggle with storage - have the SWAT box so have a tube, plug kit, gloves and some patches in here. Tubeless so only need to carry 1 tube - only carry an extra for a few (epic) rides a year. Small saddlebag more then enough for all tools, I have a bigger version which swap everything into and could then carry extra tube and clothing. Pump is frame mounted. So jersey pockets are for food/clothing/phone. Even mount my phone on my bars (QuadLock) if I need to carry more clothes in pockets during summer when it's warmed up... I have the same mini toptube Deuter that Chris linked. Amazing bag for the money - use that more than the bigger saddlebag. Tends to have a battery pack & food in it.

Someone did mention it, but not sure the same one. The one he mentioned was from Northampton to Inverness or something like that?!

I'll be doing a few epics this year. 200km audax type things, inexpensive and fun to explore! Have no interest in bikepacking or doing overnight.

I really like where my light is now so moving it lower is no go, aestics of the bike and all that.. already put an arsesaver on to keep my bottom dry and it's ugly as it gets but what ever. I'll just get a pouch for the pocket and that'll be it for me I think.
