Road Cycling

I also think that as long as it's dry and I manage to warm up, I'd never get home regretting going out. I just enjoy the outside so much more than Zwift etc.
For me, it depends if I've been the hammer or the nail! I do like the structured element to Zwift though.

The main criteria for me loving a ride is a bit of sunshine at this time of year. Otherwise the roads are grotty, drivers are extra ****** and I usually get quite wet. Sun makes it all better.

If it helps, this was the kind of conditions i had yesterday :p

Was actually quite nice. As i set off using my road bike with 40mm gravel tyres instead of my hardtail and the first 60km or so i was thinking it was the perfect bike for the terrain and started wondering why i'd bothered to turn my hardtail into a gravel bike. Then i hit some sections with loose 2" pebbles and some pretty tricky sections of rocky climbs and wished i had my hardtail bike.
Kind of cemented it makes more sense to use the hardtail for any off road rides and switch my road bike back to my 28mm tyres to avoid compromising both bikes!

Sun does make it all better. None of that this weekend sadly but I have 0 motivation anyway so did bare minimum on trainer.

Did close to 2 hours on this yesterday. Felt good. Some soreness but will take some getting used to... Nose is very wide - easily another 3-4mm each side of the Power. Quite a large amount (I have a pic if anyone is interested). Noticed some rub on my shorts but not sure what they where like before. Will check before/after on tomorrows ZRL, if it's scuffing my shorts I won't keep riding it! Quality is amazing, really impressed by the build & looks of it :D
HR Monitors: Talk to me.

<snip>

Didn't realise I could broadcast from my whoop to my Wahoo so I may do that going forwards but would still need to get one if I cancel Whoop. Thinking maybe an bicep band one would be better?
TICKRv2 here, not without it's issues and I went through a bad batch of batteries... But it's been good since. I'm on the cheapy rainforest Panasonic ones in a white/red blister pack. Figured Duracell would last a bit longer when I got them elsewhere when I hadn't got prime but no end of issues with them.

TICKR still in good books for the many years I had out of the v1 'Blue'. I had a couple of years with bad straps from Garmin before it.

Whoop is ok if you're not that worried about accuracy on short efforts. I found my peaks got lost, also the quick changes/recovery from short efforts the TICKR picked up. Whoop much more 'smoothed out'.

Whoop is looking at the time between the beats, but still surprising that it smooths the data so much that you can't see peaks properly. When I used Whoop I never thought to, or weren't able to link it with my computer... Keep thinking I should re-subscribe.

interesting! yeah, it's a wide saddle all around. Was going to ask, have you actually measured your sit bones? that is what really matters when it comes to size. I've got a lot of meat so presumed that my arse is wide but after measuring I learned that I was in between narrow and medium saddle size.

A heads up for any other cyclists out there that need prescription lenses...

I picked up a pair of https://www.boots.com/kyusu-k-sunm-...agCVwNk94yHZoHVm66gRTtMgXGpEcQtk47STMfFDGsX63 sunglasses with clear lenses, uv/glare/scratch protection for £120 at the weekend and got another pair half price. Wrap around style and look quite like cycling specs.

I needed some new everyday glasses and I'm now wearing these for non-cycling, albeit they're too strong a prescription to correct long distance that I can't wear them for browsing my mobile or using the pc.

I compared my Whoop to my Tickr up some climbs and didn't see much difference. I remember monitoring both on some indoor rides and never seeing them more than 2 bpm apart. I think I compared averages too and they were very similar.

I don't think my HR 'spikes' much, it generally just 'climbs' like I do... it's not like Watts or cadence that drastically change in a matter of seconds.

Again, I wear at the top of my bicep, which might be better than wrist that most people wear?

I didn't think to check the temperature. I just saw it was going to be dry. Took me ages to warm up once I was home. Was all fun and games until my friend got a puncture and sitting around for 10 minutes took all the heat out of us.

So, I think what happened was we stopped for a coffee for about 25-30minutes. My guess is the strap went to sleep or maybe got itself locked. Wish there was a button you could tap on the device to reconnect or something. As I only noticed it stopped tracking 20 minutes later. Was going up a big hill and it seemed like hitting my chest didn't wake it back up and I had a few layers on so was difficult trying to disconnect and reconnect the device.

It was the magene arm strap I was looking at @Martynt74 but maybe the Wahoo arm band one would be better.
Sometimes I really miss England. Other times, not so much.

If anything that looks too sunny. I feel for you, I genuinely do. Cooking like that.

I will admit as I dropped into a gorge it got pretty hot. Especially since I had a base layer on as it was only 7c when I left the house.

It’s generally fairly ideal at the moment when you go out at midday though. I just need to get back into the habit of suncream again.

I was missing out on having proper cycling galsses for years, so last year I got contact lenses for my cycling trips.

have to say its great experience not needing to cycle with raised neck in order to see through glasses and not above and see duck all lol

head can be down more and more aero ;)

putting lensed on is a pain though..especially if you dont have to do it all the time

Would you still not wear something to protect your eyes from stones and flies etc?

Assume he just has normal non-prescription cycling glasses?

I really want some new cycling glasses. Mine are some relatively cheap Siroko photochromic ones, but i never find they go dark enough and generally feel a bit rubbish. I keep eyeing up the Sungod ones but i keep spending money on other stuff and justifying €200 for something i don't "need" is tricky!

my eyes still mostly work but need a -0.75 correction or so, so I wear glasses when driving and been wearing the same while cycling, the issue is that they don't do well in wind.

I can probably get away without while out cycling but not tried it yet. Got a cheap pair of rockbors from aliexpress.

I've got some oakleys with t he prism lenses which I've had a while and I seem to get on with. Have a look at the Spatzwear glasses, they're currently on offer.

Cheers. I might consider the Oakleys too, doesn't seem to be too much in it when you get to this kind of level. The Decathlon ones also seem to be well rated. I could probably also do with some normal every day sunglasses. I currently alternate between some non polarised Ray Bans which i love but the lenses let them down (although i did see a company do 3rd party replacement lenses for them in polarised) and then some cheap polarised ones which are ok but definitely noticable compared to my old high end polarised ones.
