I'd say we're going though a cost of lockdown crisis because governments across the world printed so much more money that it's now 30% more worthless than before 2020...

But GPU's are not food - nobody needs a GPU to survive. Gaming is a hobby and hobby purchases are not IMHO subject to much financial rigour - if you have the money or the credit and you fancy it, you buy it, and then rationalise it - see the totally insane prices during lockdown. You then can spend an eternity on the internet telling everyone else why they're wrong about it being a terrible purchase

And as to Navi 44 for laptops - I don't think AMD needs to bother. They've got Strix Point APUs to cope with '60 class(ish) market - a lot cheaper to build, so more margins for AMD, and slightly cheaper for the end customer.

I wish AMD the best of luck with RDNA4, but really I wish they'd just flipping get on with it!

Not necessarily all due to QE,because inflation is also due to localised problems. China and Taiwan have much lower inflation than Europe has.European inflation increased massively due to the war in Ukraine,disrupting material supplies like gas,fertliser,etc. So the cost of everything has gone up in Europe because the energy and resource inputs have skyrocketed.The cost of the energy support scheme alone in Europe was already close to 1 trillion Euro in 2023:

But many heavy industries have not had complete support. Farmers also have had to negotiate the double impact of BOTH diesel and fertiliser costs going up. It's also not just food, people are tightening their purses on - it's everything else.

Other countries,if anything have seen inputs decrease in price,because a certain country is now forced to sell its raw materials at lower than average prices. Then there is the cost of certain green policies,when a number of other countries just burn loads of cheap oal. So people need to really stop using excuse of inflation to explain why certain tech is skyrocketing in price.Weird,how lots of other tech seems to be not having this issue.

And where did I say 'oh, think of the shareholders'? AMD is a business, they exist to make money. If they can't make money making GPUs they will stop. You will then have one less option in the market, and Nvidia will have even more of a monopoly. How does that help your wallet?

Consumers also don't exist to prop up companies either. AMD nearly went bankrupt due to poor products such as Bulldozer,which forced them to design Ryzen. Consumers need to act in their own interests,not worrying if a company is making 10% less margin.

I doubt we will see the 9060 or 5060 series for months yet.

There haven't been any leaks. There have been very few rumours. And existing cards in those price brackets still seem to be in good supply, with prices broadly the same as they were last year.

5070 looks to be like 5%-10% faster than the 4070 depending on the clock speed I reckon

You are correct - why I said it's important. I was expecting the RX7600 series to show up in more prebuilt systems but it didn't.

Because they want to price and name relative to Nvidia. They tried that with the RX5600XT and when Nvidia dropped the price of the RTX2060,they had to rush out a performance BIOS before launch.

Even the RX5700XT was called an RX690 once.

I don't think its that simple. Because that has been the previous strategy. I don't think the new guy at the helm is going to run things the same way. I think AMD got hold of information that pointed to a potential catastrophe that we are now seeing with nvidia and wanted to maximise on that effect. You don't delay for this long if you are just gonna go do what you've always done and certainly not when there is an unknown factor which is the new leadership. Now don't take this as AMD will now release the 9070 series for 300 bucks but I'm pretty sure that the whole idea is to let Nvidia's situation screw over Nvidia and then sweep in looking like the "good" guys offering you a better deal and actual gpus to buy and for that to happen things has to play out in their natural order. So people have to get very frustrated with the situation which takes some time to really build up. Wanna wait for that disappointing uplift in performance being scalped by anyone and everyone and pay 1000-1100 bucks minimum for midrange GPU?? or just get a solid competitive product with equal performance and an seriously upgraded upscaler for less and available in droves? I think this is the basis of the plan. If they manage to execute on it is a whole other matter though.

• Renaming to "help" the average joe who only knows Nvidia make a different choice(Yes its dumb but it isn't done for you and I).
• Close the gap in the upscaler race while also being able to use fancy marketing words like ML for those who think it matters.
• Let Nvidia ruin themselves this time around with poor availability, poor performance uplift, MSRP increase, scalping left and right, burning connectors. <-I believe the underlined parts is the main reason for the sudden delay.
• While waiting, capitalise by building up inventory and fixing or improving the software suite.
• Keep doing announcements of the announcement to earn the achievement, Announcement Master Dignified, while keeping the Radeon brand fresh in peoples minds until that day where the announcement becomes a real product.
• Profit?

Navi MK1 wasn't too bad because the RX5700 non-XT was below £300. But after that the shrinkflation really started to happen in the mainstream.

RTX3000/RX6000 series would have been better,but the Pandemic,Miners and FOMO gamers indicated to Nvidia/AMD people were willing to spend more.

Why can’t they release the 9070XT for the 7800XT price? The 7800XT was bringing flagship performance (within 2% of a 6900XT) for $499.

It does concern me! Even though the RX6700XT was more expensive than the RX5700XT,it was close to an RTX2080TI in rasterised performance.

This is why the 30% improvement over an RX7800XT at not more than £500(an RX7900XT),is not something I think is excessive.

People need to not be conditioned by Nvidia trying Turing MK3.

I had a thought about that jay video about the 5070ti price. And how they call the asus prime and msrp card, but it's price is listed at 899 usd.

So like the USA tariffs are a thing, and iirc there was a 10% from a while back but it had a whole bunch of exceptions. When the new lot came in they got rid of the exemptions and added another 10%. So 750 + 20% = 900. Now I know tariffs don't quite work like that, but it's close enough that I could see asus going mspr + 20% is new msrp.

But it got me wondering if the recent 9070 and 9070xt price leaks are a similar story. Mspr + 20% becomes actual retail price, in the USA at least. So maybe when the dust settles the actual price vs the 5070ti is way better than it looks based on the last couple leaks.

Though who know. The whole thing is such a mess in every direction.
