M&S sofa has broken - partial refund offered - thoughts?

The quality of M&S furniture had really dropped the last few years, a lot of it was being made in far east sweat shops
The clothes too, the jeans are probably on the same level as Primark for 4x the price.

One of my pairs the stitching at the crotch evaporated in less than 6 months

Are they going to give you the money first or they want receipt of the old sofa first?

If they send the money first and then arrange collection just don't answer the door, they'll give up after the first attempt.

I mean, why the hell wouldn't you take the money.. Any repair would be less than half that.. Its most like a broken spring which is a 20 minute fix and not expensive.

If they were letting him keep the sofa, well done for reading the whole thread lol.

Yeah, it was shockingly bad. We bought nursery furniture from there and had 4 changing tables and 2 cribs before they got us a decent set.

A 10 year warranty doesn't mean they will fully refund or replace? Wow, I'm naive. I can completely understand if this discussion was based on standard consumer rights, but if it has a warranty I would have expected to be made whole.

If it has a 10 year warranty you can reasonably expect them to fix it. However, as they no longer have a furniture department they should be offering a partial refund (can't be a full refund due to betterment). But I would argue the refund should be 70% based on you being 3 years into a 10 year warranty. They guaranteed it would last 10 years and it lasted only 30% of that time. So you only had 3 years benefit from the sofa.

I’m still shocked in how someone has a 10 year warranty on a sofa and doesn’t have house insurance… reminds me of the dude that kept starting threads about money and then asking about a warranty on a washing machine.

Did the sofa come with a 10 year warranty or did you pay extra for it?

Can’t remember how much mine cost me, but it’s moved house three times and lasted me about 14 years, I only tend to sit in one spot (yes that’s my spot), if I use the start to use the other side and the arm chair, it should last me another 28 years, not that there’s anything wrong with my spot, it’s broken in nicely.

Been bored of it for the last few years, chances are it’s getting donated when I re-do the downstairs.

Before you get all s75 on them. I did this for a faulty from delivery sofa that was due to be fixed under warranty but the company went bust during Covid after repair arranged. Finance company tried to go down the not our problem route. Claim taken over a year and eventualy they had to pay a third party to fix it and got 150 quid for inconvenience. It’s not quick and quite stressful with a lot of calls and emails.

Probably depends on the finance company. I’ve had to use it before when I bought some headphones which were faulty, and the retailer weren’t responding to me.

Took a few weeks but got a full refund and completely hassle free.

Yup, my original solar installer went bust with my deposit, it took about 3 weeks but I got my £4000 back in full. All that was needed was a quick phone call and a couple of emails to send in the evidence.

Always pay on credit card…

I’m not sure why people are talking about home insurance, home insurance does not cover faulty goods or wear and tear.
