I recommend doing a clean install of windows when going from non x3d to x3d to make sure windows doesn't have any issues and you get the most out of it
Probably a good idea, or at least be prepared to do a clean install. But Windows is a different beast compared, to say, 10 years ago and is a lot more forgiving.

my 9800x3d on a gigabyte x870 aorus elite idles between 40c - 49c
when gaming its around anywhere between 45c - 60ishc
thats on a thermalright phantom spirit air cooler

has anyone here in the uk suffered with the dreaded dead 9800x3d yet?
ive had my 9800x3d nearly 2months now with no problems at all touchwood.
but im using a gigabyte board not asrock or asus

My usecase has changed and 7950X3D isn't really necessary anymore so I ended up ordering 9800X3D :D

I grabbed 7950X3D in the first place because at the time I was streaming/recording and I had an AMD GPU (their hardware encoding wasn't quite as good at the time so I had to use x264 encoding), but now that I don't really do either much anymore and I have a Nvidia GPU now so I can use NVENC, making all that extra core not really needed.

All I need to do is to update the BIOS on my board (ROG Strix B650E-I), swap the CPU, configure stuff in the BIOS and i'm good to go.

What's the TDP/CO is everyone running at? With my 7950X3D I have it at 130w TDP + -25 CO on CCD 0 and -5 on CCD 1 (it's the best I could do and keep it stable if I'm just adjusting it per CCD), with 9800X3D I'm probably gonna leave TDP alone, cap temp at maybe 85c or 90c, and start at -30 and tinker with things until I'm happy.

On mine I just did a negative offset of 20, didn't really touch anything else.

Ok, that's the 9800X3D installed ... had to re-seat/repaste it because I was getting 60 degrees centigrade idle temps ; I used a Noctua shield ( to help with keeping the MX-6 on the IHS ) but perhaps it moved slightly ?? Anyway, went without a shield on the 2nd attempt and idle temps now low 40's. Got a neg 25 on all cores going and seems stable thus far.

speed wise? 6000 CL30 for a price/performance balance is the go to.

I'd tried to look into this a bit more but lots of videos i saw were comparing different speeds + different timings at the same time so were useless.

I forgot how long it takes disassembling a PC :(

So a few hours later I've now moved to an AMD setup. New motherboard, memory and obviously the 9800x3D.

Apart from a couple of bios hiccups, (a weird warning about new CPU detected & a warning about no CPU fan speed detected as I'm using an AIO), Windows seemed to have sorted itself out and we are back up and running :)

I'll do a proper windows reset this weekend.

Are there any immediate AMD CPU tweaks I should do? Bios & windows settings etc?

Cheers

What motherboard? my Gigabyte X870 has a fan header for the CPU fans and then next to it another 1 for the pump (labelled CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT), Could be that your using the wrong fan headers for the AIO if your still getting the warning.

New CPU detected is normal
