The Nitro+ at 360W (OC) has an 83% safety margin (660/360).

A 2x8 pin card at 300W power draw has basically no safety margin according to the spec, each 8 pin is rated for 150W. Although we know that 8 pin can do more than 150W without melting.

I don't think you're following what I'm saying. I'm not talking about it going on fire, I'm saying it's a poor connector that has no tolerance, does not respond well to bends. Compared to an 8 pin it must be completely snug. 8-pin is obviously a mature design, with larger pins and a simpler locking mechanism, and you can for the most part be as rough with it as you like.

Oh I get you now, but I do think some of the tolerance things like being perfectly snug is NVIDIA not wanting to accept blame for using a 600W (660W) rated cable with a 594W GPU.

If the 12vhpwr connector was instead rated for 400W there would be far fewer issues with melting cables, even if they aren't fully seated properly.

If you have a 4/5% safety margin on something, your tolerances need to be very precise. With the 8 pin cable, realistically it can handle more than the 150W so the real safety margin is much higher, so you can get away with a lot more in terms of fit and handling.

That's odd. When I added the sapphire plus 9070 XT to the cart, the item count was two. Looked at the cart and the second it was Monster Hunter Wild at £0.0 (original priced had a red line through it).

The lower end models aren't chopped liver though nor are they compromised. Also the XFX models are the ones with highest clocks, and couple of others

If you do some research you'll find the XFX models run hot and are the loudest. The Mercury doesn't overclock any better than the Nitro+ while being louder and hotter.

Yeh based on testing data ive seen, the average temps for the xfx was like 54C and about 36db noise levels. Most other cards are around 26db which is way quieter, and only up to 56 to 61C. I'd rather have the nitro+ thats much quieter.

Considering every 3db change is double the volume then it is a significant difference in noise produced by the XFX cards. It put me off the XFX models.
Normalised at 35db Saphire (Nitro and Pulse) and Asus (TUF) cards ran below 50 degrees while the XFX Mecury was closer to 53 degrees.
Which correlates with the data you've found.

I can't see it as people are willing to pay more than the MSRP of the 9070XT for the 9070.I think the price now is the sale price when they go live
