Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Hi all,
I am wanting to purchase a Smart watch, as a present for someone that mainly wants it for heart rate and more importantly "sleep monitoring/tracking". They are not very active ie does not go out running, cycling, gym etc.
Can anyone recommend a good smart watch. They have an android phone (samsung galaxy) and not into the apple ecosystem.
Ideally not too expensive, are the Amazon smart watches any good or the FitBit ones for example? Less than £100 would be great.. looking at the Fitbit charge 6.
Thanks in advance
For sleep monitoring I find the Fitbit Charge 6 decent.

Quick question, trying to automatically mute phone whilst wearing my watch, Google says it's possible, but I don't see the setting where it should be.
Have they removed this feature?
If you're using the Google Watch app, there should be a "notifications" option right under the "settings" menu title on the home page, in there there should be a "manage phone notifications" section near the end, allows muting calls and/or notifications via a couple of toggles.

Hi guys,

Longtime Fitbit owner/user and probably going to be with them (currently got a Sense which I'm more than happy with) until Google pull the plug. I'm not one to leave a sinking ship :D

However, most of my friends and family have left... Either leaving FB to go Samsung or Apple etc.

Is there a way, an app integration or something, that would allow us to come together and see our weekly steps and other data, like it is on the Fitbit app/email?

Many thanks!

Jeezus, must have been years since I posted in here.

TLDR; Stopped using smart watches when I got my first Polar which lasted longer than any smart watch that I've owned.
Upgraded to a Garmin epix (gen2) which is absolutely amazing

Similar here. Occasionally use Apple or Android smart watches but the durability of the Garmin watches keeps holding of me. Had lots ot them, currently have a Fenix 6X Pro that lasts well over a week even with daily gps tracking sessions. If Garmin did a version of this with cellular calls and messaging it would be my perfect watch.

I've got a preorder in for the Oneplus watch 3, the major reason I ditched my Galaxy 5 and went back to a Fitbit tracker was the need to charge every/every other day.
While the Watch 3 isn't quite going to match my 6-7 days of battery life on my Charge 6 it sounds like it won't be a million miles off and gives me back the full smartwatch experience.

Helps that by the time I've got my trade in for the Fitbit the Watch 3 will have cost me about £160 which is a bit of a bargain in my mind.

Been using a smart watch since the original Galaxy Gear, only ever really used one for basic fitness and notifications. Recently switched from an Apple Watch to a garmin as my main watch and no idea why I didn’t do this sooner. Does everything I need and only having to charge it once every 2 weeks.

Everyone who switches from mobile phone related smart watch to a Garmin sees the light. Garmin watches work and everything else feels like a gimmick, especially if you use it for fitness/hiking/swimming etc.

Am i the only person who doesn't use a Smartwatch for fitness?
I don't really, I used to use it for payments initially (to save carrying my wallet around at work) but then I found it feels better than any other watch I've had and it's nice to check in on how many steps and miles you've done in a day occasionally.
Main use is still payments and seeing the time and date :D The weather app is handy too.

I tend to use mine mostly for health metric tracking hrv, rhr, etc. Quite interesting to see trends and how various things affect them.

I'd say my primary use is not for fitness, but I do still use it for that.

99% of the time it's notifications and step tracking (I don't count that as fitness but I do like seeing the number go up). Oh and telling the time. Having a personal alarm in the mornings rather than one that makes noise should be a legal requirement if you ask me, especially if you get up at different times to your significant other.

I did run a half marathon last year so for about 10 weeks it was used for fitness and far nicer than taking a phone out running. Even still it was also serving as an audio device.

What other uses are there?

Time
Setting alarms, countdowns, i have to take 9 different pills at different times
Notifications, i still have 95% phone battery left most days because i can read emails, Whatsapp etc on my watch
Asking it questions
Remotely controlling Poweramp on my phone
Temperature
Guiding me to places using Maps
Payments

Probably loads more

I mainly use it to quickly check notifications and remote music control (poweramp user here too), especially if my phone is in my pocket. Saves having to get the phone out especially if I'm in a crowded area. A calculator when I need to access one quickly. Calendar to glance if I have an event coming up. Weather compilation on the watch face to quickly check the current weather and temp. Sometimes use it for payment as well. If I'm at a large gathering and need to take a group photo, the remote camera control app is also handy.

I'm not much of a fitness person so health wise all my watch does is track my steps, heart rate and stress (OnePlus Watch 2). I don't find sleeping with a watch comfortable either so sleep monitoring is useless for me.
