Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

I would quite like a Galaxy Watch Ultra but am currently rocking a Garmin Epyx 2 Pro Saphire, it's a great watch but the best bit is I only have to charge it every 2 weeks!! still don't understand why the samsung or apple can't match this.

Plus Garmin has topographic maps, and the ability to plot runs on the watch itself by stating how far you want to go and which direction, or you can draw routes on the app or the web. The mind boggles why anyone would spend that amount of money on a GWU.

The Epix Pro Gen 2 also comes in 47mm too if people find the 51mm too big.

oh yes I totally forgot you can do that, in fact the Garmin is amazingly customizable also, and the torch feature is a total lifesaver, so many times it has come in handy!

I’m looking to change my Apple Series 8, I have an iPhone 15 PM

I use it for Strava runs, times and phone alerts

I have about £200 budget?

Anyone had any experience with the HUAWEI WATCH GT 4 Smart Watch

I favour the rounder screens

Many thanks In advance

Apologies if this has been asked before but search is down for a bit with the new forum upgrade so I'm guessing a little as to where to post this.

Saturday just gone I did my first park run. It was a bit of fun and I may do more so I'm looking for the best way to carry my barcode. What I did this time was add it to Google wallet then enable wallet on my watch so that I could leave the phone at home and travel light.

That worked well and I'm more than happy to continue along that route except for one slight downside: the need to have a watch screen lock when using Google wallet. This lock reactivates every time you take the watch off (daily) and it's not the end of the world, just a tad annoying.

I suppose I could enable and disable screen lock on any Saturday only if I'm going to run but thought I'd ask if anyone else has come up with a better solution.

Before someone says to go old school and print and carry the barcode... Shhh!

You could maybe save the barcode as a picture on the watch and then open this when you need it?

The screen lock doesn't bother me. Once the watch is on and you've unlocked it doesn't reactivate until you take the watch off and put it back on. So it's just a once a day thing. It would be annoying if it was everytime you went to look at the phone.

I have tried various smart watches but keep going back to my Garmin instinct original. It's ugly but just works. The battery lasts ages and it's indestructible.

Yeah it's not the worst, just not what I'm used to. Where I've started running a bit more I've taken to topping up the charge while sat at my desk to be sure it will record everything so I guess I'm noticing the re-locking more.

I have been eyeing up a move to Garmin if I do start taking exercise tracking over long distances more seriously. The battery is fine for smart watch use and probably fine for what I'm doing in reality but I'm a sucker for some new tech if I've got any excuse.

I've got a Pixel Watch at the moment. Had it almost since launch.

I've had the temptation of finding a Wear OS watch with better battery life, and have come across the OnePlus Watch 2R, which claims 100 hours of use.

It does this by having two SoC's and two operating systems. Hope it's reasonable!

Just got the Watch 7 44mm and after two days it's so much better than the 4 classic. Great screen and oh so much better battery life. Off charge since 8am and sitting at 75% remaining. My 4 would have been at 30% by now.

I've got an itch to upgrade and I'm thinking about getting one but have the 5 Pro and can't decide.

I can't really think of an alternative that I fancy on Android though.

I saw it in person at the Samsung store first, as I wanted to be sure the larger size wouldn't look too big on my skinny wrist. Thankfully that watch is barely bigger than the smaller Watch 4 classic I had. But the screen looks so much bigger.

I'm looking for a smartwatch at about £200. I have a Fossil Explorer but I think I've managed to fry the battery.

I mainly use it when out with work, so it needs to be able to display Google maps directions, citymapper, and have NFC for Google wallet payments and Oystercard. Decent battery life.

Ideally able to use Watchmaker watch faces as I've got a few faces I've designed.

Any suggestions?

Personally for that I'd recommend a TicWatch Pro 5 / Pro 5 Enduro. Excellent battery life, looks 'normal', and has Google Pay.

Not sure what citymapper is or if it works with this mind.
