Russell Brand.

If he comes back, I'd be very surprised if he's able to 'prove his innocence'.

Assuming he's guilty (and I think it's very likely that he is), I hope they throw away the key, I can't stand the guy.
I agree with you, but innocent until proven guilty etc etc.

Being charged means there is more than enough evidence to go downthough.
Ah, the Russian approach to criminal justice. If you're in court, you've clearly done something wrong as you wouldn't be here otherwise. Guilty!

99+% conviction rate

Is not this the guy that trolled Sachs on the phone for fun some years back for his audience?
Could not find the article now, it was a long time ago.

Yeah, I despised him before then but that was the icing that increased my loathing.
He also blocked the entranced to the building where my other half works with a camera crew and a megaphone, shouting and whining about bankers bonuses (like he isn't a multi millionaire) and capitalism (while standing outside a state owned bank) without realising that there are no bankers in that building.

He truly is the endiest of bells.

Knowing how shocking the conviction rate is for rape I wouldn't hold out much hope for him to be convicted.

If he did it I hope the victim can get some closure by telling her story in court.

edit: seems its just over 50% of those cases that go to trial

. CPS figures show that in 2023/24 there were 2,283 prosecutions, 51.9% higher than in 2022/23.[13] While the conviction rate decreased, the volume of convictions increased. Overall, the conviction rate in 2023/24 was 53.4%, 1.6 percentage points lower than in 2022/23. In 2023/24 there were 1,220 convictions, 47.7% higher than in 2022/23.[14]

It takes a hell of a lot to charge someone for rape.

In England and Wales, a very small percentage of reported rape cases lead to a charge and subsequent court proceedings, with only around 2.6% of rape offences resulting in a charge/summons outcome in the year ending March 2024.

Ridiculously low so to charge means they must have something.

And that mixed with The Colonels post above means they stand a good chance of finding him guilty.

According to Sky news, it’s not just one victim. There’s about 5.

Between his criticism/exposure on social media of a variety of the media corporations / institutions/companies /individuals in power and his opposition/questioning during the covid pandemic I suspect he’s made himself plenty of enemies over the years.

Whether he’s guilty or innocent of this latest charge I’m sure there are plenty of powerful people who would like to see him made an example of and his name dragged though the mud for comments he’s made.

As always I find it abhorrent and concerning that these kinds of accusations can be made anonymously by individuals unknown even before it goes to trial and they continue remain anonymous during and after the entire process…..

Feels grossly unfair and one-sided against the accused IMO when guilt hasn’t been established.

I knew he was a piece of **** from the moment he stepped into the limelight.

Never understood why people couldn’t see straight through him.

How does one establish guilt without an accusation first?

Are you proclaiming rape victims should be force to out themselves as victims of rape to everyone so they can get justice?
