depends.. my experience is back from 2017 ish when I used to commute in london and have sent a handful of really close calls that left me a bit shaken up and have never had a response. I think they'd care more if you got hit.
I do like mine, it's useful but mine is muted and on-screen only so I don't have to do life savers as often, it's still hard to trust it, it's quite good all in and very rarely drops a false-positive.
Most of the guys I ride with have the garmin version. Computers are constantly beeping. I feel it's not a necessity for me, if I am going to get wiped out from behind then being notified of the possibility of it a second or two beforehand likely won't make much difference. I do get the peace of mind the camera version could bring and I used to run the cyclique version years ago but unless you actually are hit by a car then what are you going to do with the near miss and dangerous driving footage? Send it to the police who will do absolutely nothing about it?
Police are loads better these days - seems a drive to combat bad driving and far more social awareness of cyclists with camera. Seems like they appreciate the assist, rather than before it seemed like 'extra work'. Since the start of the year I've reported 5 drivers and 4 have been given 'an advice letter, a driver improvement course or prosecution'.
I reported 3 late last year and all 3 the same. Before that I hadn't reported any for several years as my prior reports didn't even get a response (like grudas). My region (west-mercia) came up with 'Operation Snap' and the portal thing had always been good - I'd had responses from it before a few years post-covid but really only with reasons why they wouldn't prosecute (including below which got featured on road.cc) then they stopped even responding. So I stopped reporting. Someone recently said they'd had good feedback, so I tried again and have continued. Even got a new camera to improve my footage as I wasn't happy with my old camera!
Hell, I've even had 4 pot holes out of 5 I've reported and 3 more on my commute I hadn't even bothered reporting have spraypaint around them like they'll get done soon as well! Not bad considering we've got the worst roads in the UK. It's quite surprising how much a couple of easy things like this means I'm semi-happy with the 5% rise on my council tax bill this year. Now if only they sort the garden waste so we're not spending £6.50 on 10 'green bags' for grass cuttings we can only get by ordering in advance from the town hall library which is then only open 16 hours a week over 4 days for pickup...
Just looked and she has been removed, you have the crown back. 278w for 3 minutes though, I don’t want this to sound disrespectful but surely you can do more than that?
The only way our roads are going to get safer is if drivers are **** scared that their bad driving will be caught on camera and cost them money or their license. They sure as hell aren't going to do it out of care or consideration for others.
Certainly seems that case at the moment. Whole system needs an overhaul but short term should be to make it 'profitable' for Police to convict these. I know they're not funded by convictions, but the fines for motorists should at least be setup to cover the costs of processing their fault rather than 'everyone else' footing the bill. Most of the ones which hit the press the drivers fines for court costs barely cover anything, nevermind all those opting for a driving awareness course to avoid points. I don't disagree with that - drivers given the option to learn, but there should be more fines without points coming into it, then the 'income' from those back into the actual processing of these faults. Can't forget these drivers are 'guilty' and admitting as such. If they can afford a £20,000 vehicle to drive recklessly, they can afford a £250 bill for covering the costs each time they're stupid. Basically I feel it needs more deterrent - for those where it's not worth points on their licence for it (and the loopholes found to avoid it).
Garmin has just announced the Garmin Varia Vue, which combines a 600-lumen front light with a safety camera capable of recording in 4K. This essentially becomes the logical pairing to the Garmin Varia RCT-715 rear camera/radar combo. Of course,

I do feel many here are missing the benefit of the Varia radar. It is the ability to relax when it is not beeping at you. No need to listen intently when there are no cars. No need to look over your shoulder when it says there is a car approaching. Once you start trusting it*, it makes the rides so much more relaxed.
* still look over your shoulder when going for a right turn!
It's good you are getting some traction towards driver behaviour. I had just assumed it would be a futile exercise. Drivers over here aren't as bad and don't seem to be as much in a hurry generally. One of the lads I ride with submits his footage to police all the time and then calls them to ask for updates. I can see why they would fob him off to be fair as I try and avoid even riding next to the bore let alone talking to him on the telephone while I am supposed to be working.
Yeah, that should have been a revision years ago, no need for a whole new radar design to change the charging port... Not that it bothers me too much having micro usb around still.
Looks far from GoPro quality to me. Imagine quality, stability etc are disappointing. The good parts are, not running 2 items and the decent battery life. I can't justify nearly £500 on that... They would probably win me over at £300. The EU and US pricing is even worse...
Sorry, I'm really confused. You posted that you're waiting for a Garmin Varia radar rear unit with USB-C. (There is one already) You posted saying they're bringing one out for the front and said 'Wrong end'. You were told there is one for the rear... what am I missing?

haha fair enough. The reviews on that camera/radar Garmin one are crap. Plus don't need video recording, so would trade the battery life for just a radar.
And @Trifid Apple did it with the Airpods. Brought out a new version with USB-C and nothing else. (but they should have dont that years ago, but they were being ***** and tried to force everyone to use their lighting cable)
Well yes, but you posted a link to a camera/light with bad reviews on video quality and said it was for the wrong end. The other end has camera/light and bad reviews too! It's a perfect alternative at the other end
It is the bad quality and price that stopped me. I really want to go all USB-C. I replaced a few things in the last 6 months to remove Micro USB (Mouse/Gaming headset). My Varia is the last remaining thing...
Happy enough with my garmin (and I think it looks nicer) but I quite like the screen on the new Bolt. My v2 is perfectly fine but the screen does look a bit old.

Yes quite shameful isn't it, so yes I can! Need to make that less of a target!

Yeah, that tractor driver should be in court getting his license taken away and more. That could have easily been a death. If he keeps driving like that it will be eventually and we all know how that will go down. "Momentary lapse of concentration". "No previous incidents". If nothing else, we need to be reporting as many dangerous drivers as possible so that if things do happen in the future, perhaps the courts might be able to look and see that the killer has prior for dangerous driving and should have the book thrown at them.
I use a go pro 9 because it was cheap(ish) for the quality. The major downside is battery life. Lasts about 1.5 hours so on longer rides I have to take a spare battery and faff with changing it.

Personally I think that the police should be on the hook when someone has demonstrated that they are an absolute danger to other road users and then goes on to actually hurt someone. Perhaps the bans would be more serious if they had any skin in the game with letting these ***** exist on our roads.
£225 for my DJI Osmo 4. Last I looked a good Exposure Strada was £250?
So yeah price not too crazy comparing to them combined... But it's also not a 1500+ lumen top quality light for nightime riding with 6h+ burntime at that with a 4k camera (and not even sure it has smoothing). It's 600 lumens.
Sounds like it does 6-7h 'daytime flash' with the camera though which sounds good - as a secondary light to run alongside a primary at night times rather than as a replacement. It's overpriced for that, especially if it hasn't got smoothing or night time modes.
Yeah and totally agree with comments from @fez@grudas - at the time it was just frustrating and then a kick in the teeth the Police didn't bother. They claimed it was too hard to trace and my footage of the numberplate wasn't clear enough so I'd need 2 independent witnesses of the 'collision' to do anything.
I've had far worse and drivers making much worse decisions than that. But many other riders on the bike, or a different road it wouldn't have had an outcome like mine - the trailer 'rubbed' my knuckle, but I was ready for it. Kept control. Enough control to feel like I didn't use up one of my lives, so just turned in to work and carried on with life!
Some links to some posts from me showing various footage and bits from my old Garmin VIRB v1 camera along with my thoughts
Hopefully the more drivers get reported the less likely they'll be to drive like dicks. My bar tape is basically peeling off around the hoods so I took it as an opportunity to tart the bike up. Pink bar tape has been ordered :D

Garmin VIRB was great for the money when I got it back in 2014. If they've continued any of the hardware from that it'll be good - mine lasted for 10+ years and was still going strong (ran 3 batteries and even the original was still 3+ hours burntime). I dropped it really because the plastic housing was starting to fall apart, the lens needed replacing and the 720p/1080p quality really started to look poor.
The Osmo 4 I have now is superb, but really lacks the battery life and the form factor - but all these modern action cams is made for wearing, not bike mounting. They stick out a treat, really obvious, really exposed to damage and really not aero like the VIRB was! Also battery life is terrible, I'd become used to 4-5 hours life from my VIRB and could do more than a week of commuting. The default on the Osmo4 (which had a bit of extra burntime from the GoPro?) was poor. I've got the 'extreme' battery now and maybe seeing 3 hours. The battery it came with was less than 2.

wow, I really do not miss it. The rival groupset is smoother for sure but the 28c tires are so horrid on our roads. I forgot how bad it is, when you get used to the constant "noise" through the bars, saddle etc you forget about it a bit but jumping from my adventure bike with 40c tires to this is insane.
on the fatter tires, you don't feel anywhere near as much through the bars, the bike seems stable, the random dips/potholes/manholes covers can be riden over without avoiding them etc etc. So many benefits, and speed wise? nothing in it. On paper with power meter you may see a few extra watts required for x amount of distance/speed but in real world, the comfort and everything else overtakes it big time.
think I'll putting the argon up for sale soon and I'll spend the money on some nice carbon wheels for the adventure bike.
