EV general discussion

I dare say for a huge proportion of the population that is exactly how they see a car. an appliance to get from A to B as reliably and cheaply as possible and in comfort.
things like handling or 0-60 don't come into it

with kids in the mix, safety also a concern but really not the driving characteristics.

He has previously commented that a ‘proper car’ must have a minimum of a V8.

This is sort of a strange point/comment people make really i think (ie the "getting on with EVs" thing).

Unless you are a serious petrol head who craves the sound of an ICE and a clutch and a gearstick, an EV really is no different to having an automatic car. If you have the means to charge it at home (ie a house with a drive), and don't go on 300 mile + round trips constantly, there is nothing to not "get on with" really.

I totally get how an EV won't be for everyone, but i think for a hell of a lot of people, an EV would suit them fine.

Yep. I have a drive and will get a charger installed and charge at 7p per kwh. That will be like 95% of the time or more is my guess.

I also had a go on an EV as a curtesy car. I liked it :)

Tbf I did appreciate the advice on two seperate posts. Thought about it, but felt for me i would prefer going directly to the Nero EV. Does not mean your advice was bad or unappreciated.

My guess as to why people lol is because you compared a car with a huge difference in milage. Not to mention old shape and less warranty.

If i enjoyed changing vehicles often like some do, i would not mind. But that is not my thing. If my current car didnnot start having to spend time in the garage multiple times a year lately I would probably be sticking with it for another couple of years.

I can't see how i won't get on with an EV. I don't have range issues. I rarely do that kind of milage in one go. 250 miles is plenty for me.

I wasn't really replying to you directly.

I will cover the point I wasn't commenting solely on you disliking EV's more the car. If you are convinced that you'll love the car and want to keep it for the length of the warranty, then fair enough.

Mileage covered is much less relevant on an EV vs ICE, and the servicing requirements are way lower, as the parts you replace in an ICE over 100k miles simply don't exist on a EV. Again do your research and you'd see this. Other than consumables what parts are you replacing on your EV when as you approach/hit 100k? That is a genuine question, not rhetorical.

Both of them are Niro's btw.

I'd have thought all the suspension is more of a worry at approaching 100k miles than the engine/motor (same with an modern ice car as well really).

I've been looking at a BYD Seal in both versions but one thing I saw a while back mentioned was that the Sat nav wasn't great. The main issue raised is that it didn't route plan with charging stops included automatically and you would need to route them yourself. Has this changed now? as I do not know what SW version it was on.

The satnav is decent and certainly no worse than the Tesla (and that was decent), route planning does include charging stops, oddly these appear to be aligned to the Tesla supercharging network, however I would prefer to use the chargers on Electroverse so I use that app instead to plan a charge if required.

I noticed my neighbour has recently had an EV charge point installed and a thought struck me. What if they have bought a Tesla! This has the potential to really change my opinion of them because only ****'s buy a Tesla in 2025. Fingers crossed it is literally any other brand and then it will be easy for me to congratulate them on joining the EV club. If it's a Tesla it is going to be more awkward.

really you would judge someone who you generally get on with just because of the car they choose?
I hope you live by those same standards and make sure there is no exploitation or otherwise "unwholesome" people heading up any of the companies you have products from!.

Musk is a grade A plonker but if people choose to buy a tesla then that is up to them.

if the backside falls out of the tesla market and the 2nd hand sales collapse even more i could see us buying one in the future to replace the mrs i3.........

That said i do hope Tesla get shut of Musk, he is surely hurting them now.... IF they do however.... would you still boycott them? if so where do you draw the line? Are VW / Porsche off the table as well?

if you are really worried just get one of these

What if they bought a Chinese car and all the links to the Chinese state most Chinese manufacturers have and all the questionable things the Chinese state does and continue to do which make Musk look like a yappy puppy, how would that make you feel?

It would actually be funny if it was a Tesla after that post.

I used my Leaf's satnav for the first time yesterday and unlike any other satnav I have used when you are coming up to a junction the screen splits in two with one half showing a close up of the junction cleary showing you which way to go as well as another screen opening up on the speedo screen with clear instructions not that it's needed as the voice is clear and detailed anyway. Also went down a road that had recently been resurfaced and was as smooth as a billiard table (extremely rare up here), no road noise at all from the tyres, the silence was weird while doing 60mph!!

They are cheap for a reason.

Yeah people can buy what they like but if you buy a Tesla used or new in 2025, many people are going to think you are OK with Musk's views and actions. I personally don't think picking up a used Tesla at a discount would be worth the possibility that people might think I support Musk and his far right ideology. If a new Tesla shows up on my neighbours drive soon I will 100% think less of them. There are countless other cars they could have chosen. I will still be nice to them but my opinion of them will suffer.

It's going to be awkward as well when we meet on the shared driveway. If it was any other car I would have shown a genuine interest but if it is a Tesla I either have to show fake enthusiasm or be rude. It is actually inconsiderate to your neighbours to buy a Tesla putting them in an awkward situation unless of course they too are into the whole rightwing Nazi thing!
