EV general discussion

You can ask for a mobile appointment but as it stands it sounds like you’ve booked it in at a service centre so that’s where it will get fixed.

You can ask for a curtesy car assuming its warranty but they may not have one available.
Call roadside if it needs towing, they will arrange for it to be recovered.
Where do I ask for mobile appointment.. ? I didn't see it as an option in the service menu

Honestly, the hilarious amount of power and the price. I also didn't think it was as bad around corners/twisty b roads as some of the motoring press make out. Yes, you can feel the weight so it's not quite as pointy and responsive as other hot hatches I've had, but it's still quite fun to drive. Kind of reminds me of a dsg Golf R to drive, but even faster!.

Nothing else comes close price/performance wise, and I actually think the MG4, especially with the Xpower wheels and trim looks quite nice.

We have a Kia Sportage as a family car/got long trips. I just wanted something fun to drive to work and back that could still be relatively practical if required.
Just been for a test drive in one.
It's a beast of a machine, the power delivery is awesome and instant.
Really enjoyed the test drive, handled well.
Build quality didn't seem the best to be fair and when I enquired about lead times they said that they aren't producing the xpower so you can't factory order one.
The new MG4 is being released soon but no one knows if they will do a Xpower version and unfortunately it's as ugly as hell.

Message them and they will see if they can swap it to mobile service and you can select a date and time like you did at the service centre.

Availability may well be worse or the job may not be able to be done via mobile but I’m sure they will soon tell you if that’s the case.

I have an Ohme E Pod - With our Renault we are able to “Pair” the vehicle with Ohme, this allows Ohme access to the Battery Percentage of the car so for examples sake, if the car is on 50% and I have it set to charge to 100% it automatically works out that it’s adding 50% and will cost X Amount and be done by…

Sounds good. Installation is next month and looking forward to not having to use the damn granny charger.

On Ohme users groups on FB using the pairing system is the number one cause of problems, if the manufacturer changes anything slightly with the API you end up with failed charges etc. most recommend leaving the charger in 'top up by' mode without pairing.

That's how me and my dad use ours. Just little and often charges, and we say usually give me 35% (car has been set to 85% max when at home). Usually have it set to be ready for 1AM the next day so it charges from about 9PM onwards. And thankfully last few months it just works. No more issues. :)

Yeh, the power delivery is something else. It really is ferociously fast. Feels like your in an aircraft or something. I don't think the build quality is that bad. I mean it's no Audi or Mercedes, but I never expected it to be. So far I've noticed no rattles or creaks in mine at all.

That's interesting that they've stopped production. I bought a 1 and a half year old one with only 4k miles on it from my local dealer. It was one they sold to a guy locally and had it's first service there so history etc was all very good. Pretty much as new condition as well apart from a few very light scratches on the drivers door card.

So far I'm really enjoying it. It has a few quirks, but nothing comes remotely close for the money/age.

At times, it has given me a funny sort of head rush type feeling. Almost like it left my brain (or the blood in my brain) behind! :p

Yeah they can be pretty savage. My little Corsa pales in comparison but it’s still quite nippy. You can’t beat instant torque.

Weirdly, aircraft actually accelerate really slowly - they have huge amounts of power, but huge amounts of inertia to go with it!

I guess i meant similar to take off in a passenger plane. Kind of feels like a jet engine thrust rather than traditional car acceleration. Its probably just the smoothness of it/lack of gears and the sound etc.

I remember when my stepdad first got his model s, not even the one with ludicrous mode or whatever it's called. Down the slip road onto the motorway and it felt like a literal instant change from 20mph to 70mph, very strange experience (although great fun :D)

Yeh it's a sort of an odd feeling. It does feel like you just blink and you've somehow gone from 30 to 70 in the X power.

I really like it. I'll probably never want to have anything less than a dual motor EV now!

3.5k miles in. It’s not perfect, but I really do love this car. Have had a few people ask what it is and compliment me on it and chat to me about EVs in general… People can talk utter crap, it’s quite amusing. I just thought it was some people on here ;).

that is a smashing looking car. Definitely would be on my short list if something happened to my ipace (i really hope nothing happens to my ipace!! it still owes me another 5+ years before i can stomach the depreciation!)

Congrats on the EV6 purchase.

I've only experienced a tethered charger (well, 3 pin permanently mounted inside the garage with the type 2 lead hung on the outside wall :p ) but I think I'd find an untethered charger a massive PITA. Aesthetics aside they just seem to add more faff for no gain.

Then again I charge every day, sometimes twice if I'm heading out again in the evening.

Just secured a 2023 Kia EV6 over the weekend. In the lovely blue colour.

Surprised that I've gone for an electric, but just seems to make sense for our use case.

Any thoughts / things to look for in the ownership?

(Also got a Ohme untethered charger installation booked in)

What spec/motor did you go for? I like the EV6, and may well think about getting an AWD one to replace our Sportage as the family car in the future. Although the Elroq VRS might be available used for good prices by then so might be a tricky choice.
