I don't get why so many chat about ditching xbox. To me it's the best platform. I almost never buy games any more and haven't for ages thanks to game pass. I get so many from this service I can't imagine a situation without it. The value for money (using the £1 deal plus gold) is just so good.

Plus the controller is much better than PlayStations.

I will be xbox for my next generation of consoles no question

I think that, as with most things, it is horses for courses and it doesn't matter if a particular feature of one console is objectively better than another console if the feature is irrelevant to the user.

I don't need the effective friends management system that Xbox uses. I don't need the Xbox/pc access provided by gamepass ultimate.

Whilst I prefer the layout of the Xbox pad, I'm more than happy to use a PS5 pad as well. A pad is a pad.

In comparison to my PS5, I've barely used my series x since I got it on release in 2020. Why? Well there hasn't been any compelling reason to (for me personally).

Most titles are available on playstation, and GPU games are generally available on the Sony equivalent too. So it boils down to day 1 GPU titles and exclusives.

Playstation wins the exclusive war, and day 1 GPU games have been underwhelming (again for me personally). I prefer the playstation GUI and general user experience.

That being said, I still hold out hope for things improving on xbox gamepass. But it's a damning indictment of the brand that they bought up and own many studios, and even bought the CoD rights, and still the player base is dropping.

Fundamentally people want good games. They want innovation and top drawer titles.

But what we get is endless reskinned games like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty and a dozen free to play battle royale games, not mention repeated remasters and remakes. GPU is bloated with indie titles and other filler. It's all a bit meh.

The formula is tired and Microsoft have squandered an amazing opportunity to stand apart, produce some outstanding original IP and renew player interest. They are just making the same stuff as everyone else.

Much of the above is true for playstation but at least they have decent exclusives and for me the game library on playstation plus is just a bit better, and you still get monthly games for free which Xbox has stopped doing.

I won't drop my Xbox but if I had to choose, I'd personally choose playstation.

As for the Xbox controller being "much better", that's highly subjective. I agree it's very comfortable to use for long playing sessions, but it can't hold a candle to the haptic feedback/tech included in Playstation's dualsense controller.
Until the battery dies of course, then you just switch it over or rob a pair of AA's from the TV remote! :D

Some well made points in that post. :)

Yes, you could use MS Rewards to maintain the subscription without paying any real money, but that scheme has been gutted, particularly outwith the US and now feels like a second job.

Great post, wasn't going to respond but reminded on Reddit this morning about MS Rewards and the shell that scheme has become. Obviously when I had the Xbox One X & Series X I used it and it was such a great USP. Redeemed credit to buy games, or Game Pass subscription. I didn't get into it as much as some as I only ever did the daily searches. But it was a fairly fair scheme and certainly helped when spending money on Xbox to feel like you're were being rewarded.

And with all the bad changes, PlayStation Stars is now the more generous rewards scheme and it's pretty 'naff in it's own right.

I've stayed with Xbox purely because Ultimate over 3 years the first time and 2 years this time was a little more than what the old xbox live gold used to cost me. When that runs out in January I can't see me ever buying it again. When it runs out I will just buy the very few titles I'm interested in until the next generation. Microsoft have spent billions buying up studios that once made great games and then pump out dross. Nearly 5 years since the X launched and barely any reason for any kids to upgrade from an xbox one. Worst gen in my lifetime.

I've owned every Xbox console as well but with Microsoft bringing Xbox games to PS I feel like I could get the best of both worlds going with a PS6 when they come out. The Xbox controller has always been better so I'll be sad about that. My only real requirement for consoles is a DVD / Blu-ray drive as I have a large collection of films and TV programmes.

Qualcomm job posting leaks that next gen Xbox handheld uses ARM

The posting is for a director role, the person would be in charge of managing sales and the relationship between Qualcomm and Microsoft, the posting claims ARM Snapdragon processors will power the next generation Xbox

That will be a first for a mainstream console. Possibly will be implemented in the future, but todays games are so GPU heavy, Qualcomm cannot compete on GPU power.

I suspect the Snapdragon will only be used in the handheld Xbox and not the main unit, mainly because of they don't use x86 then it destroys backwards compatibility and I don't think the snapdragon has the performance to emulate older games.

If that is the case it makes more sense, the best snapdragon's have rated GPU performance on par with a Switch 2, which does make it a bit a weak but still possible to run modern games. It will need to improve a lot to be able to run mainstream games in future.

Can snapdragon improve enough to run mainstream games in future? I don't know but even if it does, does it make sense to use x86 and arm at the same time and how will developers respond?

It all sounds a bit weird really - there is so many questions about will it be powerful enough, how will backwards compatibility work and how will it play x86 games assuming Sony stick with x86

Would make more sense in the portable unit, but there would still be issues with compatibility no doubt.
Agreed, does sound a bit weird.

Recently I've had the urge to switch back to Xbox.

Currently gaming on PS5 and have been for most of this generation.

Has the quality of the Xbox controller improved ? The feel of the plastic and build quality felt poor in my hand compared to the ps5 controller.

I've had my XSX for 4 years and I've had to buy one replacement controller in that time due to stick drift. Same as the PS5 in fact.

I never thought in my lifetime that I would use a better controller than the Xbox but it has to be said the DualSense is exactly that.. I just wish the battery would last a little longer!

Yeah, I heard the haptics are great. I'll stick to what I have but I guess the PS6 will come out in three or four years so will look into it then.

Has anyone tried the new Retro Classics game/app yet? I gave it a quick go last night and I think it has potential to something great.
I was disappointed at first when I realised the games were streamed and not downloaded but I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth an experience it was overall, I mean I could feel input lag on certain games but that's because I used to play them a lot (River Raid in this example) but it didn't detract too much for a quick pick up and go session.
