What film did you watch last night?

Went to see Final Destination Bloodlines last night.

FD movies are always pretty much a known quantity, and this wasn't hugely different. However the slight twist on the established formula, a tiny bit more effort in developing some of the characters, and some pitch-black humour (outside of the kills themselves) made this one I'll probably remember as a whole package.

Some good kills. I winced. I laughed my ass off. I cringed.

Felt a little rushed at the end, but a solid 6.5/10 from me.

RIP Tony Todd. What a legend appearing less than six months before his death, despite being clearly unwell. Also, I just learned that he improvised many of his lines in this movie, as a personal farewell to fans. I'm not crying, you're crying.

Fountain of Youth - 4/10

In the ever alternating quality of Guy Richie films from good to bad, his latest release is a pound shop Indiana Jones clone that wasn't worth the entrance fee - which was a free screening, with complimentary food & drinks.

Seraphim Falls - 8/10 (if not more)
The cinematography in this is beautiful. Not sure if I had seen this before, but it's a great cowboy-era film. I would probably put it up there with Unforgiven (yes, Unforgiven is better overall—music and story), but this was an enjoyable two hours.

Sharp Corner - 7/10

A slow burn, no doubt. Basically a family moves into a new home that is on a sharp road corner which has resulted in a lot of accidents. The father, great performance, who is very placid see's several accident's occur and makes him feel important as he sees several people die.

Worth a watch, one of those once and done kind of movies. Great performances, slow but building tension.

A Breed Apart - 2/10

Random watch as it was about dogs roaming an island that had gone feral. Awful setup, script, effects, characters. It made it clear in the end credits 'outtakes' that it wasn't really made seriously but despite that, just a terrible film that shouldn't have been made unless you enjoy terribly made for fun movies. Hayden Panettiere makes a cameo spread over the film looking quite erm 'hench'. Assuming it was a friend of a friend movie. But just not good.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (2023)

In preparation for going to see the The Final Reckoning today, we gave this one another spin last night. I love the Mission Impossible series and this one doesn't disappoint, it's such a well made film. Love him or loathe him, you can't deny Cruise's dedication to giving the audience the best experience he possibly can. Either with his own commitment or the on and off screen talent he surrounds himself with. The only disappointment with this film is there's no IMAX shots on the 4k Blu-ray.

9/10

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning 7.5-8
Pretty exciting so long as you ignore the plot holes and surviving the impossible.

The Phoenician Scheme 4
Boring, not much happens and just not as interesting as some of his other films

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) - 7/10

It’s a good film but far too long and should have been a lot punchier.

The dialogue heavy first half goes on for too long and with too little action and the two big stunt set pieces are drawn out to breaking point, spoiling the excitement and thrills.

The references and throwbacks to the earlier films was good and even though you know how the film is going to end, the plot still manages to successfully build up anticipation.

The acting, locations and fight scenes were good if a little stilted as was the drama and comedic touches, but as a ‘grand finale’, it felt a little flat.

Totally agree. You can't say Tom Cruise doesn't give it his all. Some superb action sequences and exhilarating stunts. You can't help hearing Dougray Scott's infamous line comes to mind
No doubt Ethan Hunt will be up top doing some insane aero acrobatics

Absolutely loved the characters and loved the plot, layout and theme. It's obviously far fetched but I didnt care. Thoroughly enjoyed it. It's shame this will be his last imf movie. Anyone would be hard pressed to reproduce a movie of this quality.

Solid 8.5 for me. Sad to see it go but it was a worthy send off.

Pom is very appealing. :D
