BMW and M Power Owners

Shouldn't be case of using it more, just leave it turned on. There is no reason to turn it off at all

Ok

I guess it's just habit as previous cars having the Aircon used to drain my fuel when in stop start traffic a lot...not so bad on motorways

The 80s called, they want their irrelevant point back

Yes it uses slightly more fuel than not using it, but it's barely measurable in a modern car, and far more efficient than opening a window. (And the money you'd "save" by not using it regularly you'd have to pay out in having it repaired)

Then I guess I shall now be a more frequent user of it :D

Free chocolate and I get to use Aircon without worrying ? I love It

It's an automatic climate control system. Set it to your desired temperature the day you buy the car and you never need to do anything with it again. You don't want to be switching off the air conditioning function.

If you're worried about the fuel consumption from running the aircon you need to sell the car and buy something considerably more economical as at best you're going to save 1-2mpg. Just being stuck in traffic will have a greater effect on your economy.

Car was in for an oil change today, I supplied the oil and the trusted mechanic everything else. Came to £101 inc disposal, labour and filter. They didn't reset the service interval though but I managed that myself. All good for another 12 months!

No way I'm selling the car :p

3-4 Years doesn't tell me much :p, what is your annual mileage or even better how many miles do you reckon you'll cover in that time? I would say, if you're looking to change the car before, or just after it hits 100k miles, don't bother.

Now, loads of people will tell you that dynamic oil change is the way to go, the machine is expensive and you'll need to go to a specialist (£££...). Me and my mate both done our M140i's on the driveway around the 45-55k mark, it was more of a precaution as they were both getting a stage 2+ remap and xHP Gearbox flash. We literally did what most indy garages do... Below video pretty much tells you the manual procedure. There's loads of people who run double the power and are on the edge of the torque limit of the 8hp gearbox who use that method, those gearboxes are fine after multiple launches and abuse. The Service Kit (Oil+Pan with inbuilt filter) you can get from Autodoc, cheapest prices on Monday afternoon and select Ireland or Germany to get it even cheaper in Euros (you'll need a virtual currency account like Monzo or Revolut).

It's also recommended to reset gearbox adaptation, you can do that via ISTA (you need a laptop, £8 enet cable and I can send you instructions on how to install ISTA) or BimmerTool-Expert, and or more expensive scanners like Autel can also reset adaptations.

I'm no expert, but feel free to shoot me a DM, if you've more questions. ;) if I can get the F30's issue fixed, I'll be doing the exact same gearbox oil change procedure as FCP on the F30.

Glad I searched before asking lol.

I've had my 640D since 20k miles and it's now just over 160k and never had the gearbox oil and filter replaced . I was none the wiser to it and asked my local BMW dealer last year and got the "sealed for life" spiel but if I really wanted they'd do it for just under £2k lol. Considering the oil/filter kit is around £250 that's blatant robbery.

Getting an indy to do it next week along with other bits and bobs.

I'm looking to get the ZF8 gearbox oil service done at some stage too. Won't be yet though.my BMW Warrenty runs out next Feb/march I think. At that point I think I would be on possibly 60-65k miles maybe ? I'll have to have a search round for a good zf8 gearbox service indie who specialise in it

Why not go with a company affiliated with ZF themselves?

Isn’t that quite expensive, especially since you supplied the oil?

I use my Aircon now and then. Don’t like the drying effect tbh and still like a fridge when I do need it. Not bad for a 2011 car that’s never been regassed.

I paid £300 odd for the kit. And a bmw specialist did the work for £100.
Think mine was £350 odd when I had it done.

Just make sure it’s a proper ZF approved place :-)
Thanks guys. Yes, there's a ZF "pro plus" approved servicing centre literally a stone's throw from home (like ~8 miles away  )
Just emailed them for a quote
