*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

8BitDo have added NS2 support to a number of their existing controllers (no it does not add wake for your NS2)

https://support.8bitdo.com/firmware-updater.html

This tool covers almost all of their controllers so download and plug one in. If it recognises it then any update will be labelled as NS2 compatible before you click the upgrade button. I just did it for my Ultimate Bluetooth (Gen1) controller and it paired up and is working with my NS2.

Tips
  • if your controller has a dock then that will have an update as well
  • my controller would only update when connected directly via cable instead of sitting on the dock which was wired in
Nice to have confirmation now. I held off on buying one. Not sure if I should go cheap with the 2C or the full fat Ultimate 2.. or pay even more for the official Pro controller 2.

If I didn't already have the first generation Ultimate then I would have also gone for the 2C. The price is pretty solid even if the 2C is missing any features vs the Pro2.

I fired this up today, to see how it looks after the upgrade. Looks absolutely beautiful, the resolution bump is very noticeable.
Yes. First time playing and the graphics are very good. Impressed! Gameplay very good too. I feel like I'm playing Mario 64 all over again with impressive graphics. :D

Never say never, however the fact that GTA 6 won't be on the PS4/PS4 Pro makes me suspect it won't be on the Switch 2 either
I'm onboard with this. If it does appear then the visual quality is going to be dialed down a fair bit, run at a subpar resolution and, top it all off, make use of "fake frames" to reach the 20 to 30fps it will struggle to reach.

Here a list of games i like to see on the Switch 2 in the future. :)
F1 2025 or 2026
Halo Master Chief Collection
Forza Horizon
Forza Motorsport
New StarFox Game or a remake of either the original SNES or N64 Starfox Games
New F-Zero
Gears Of War Collection
GTA 5 because i don't think 6 will come to the Switch 2.

What else do you reckon we might see or like to see on the Switch 2?

I expect we'll see F1 '25 eventually...
I'm also expecting a slab of Microsoft stuff although there was nothing Switch 2 related at all on their showcase despite the amount of rumour there has been about things like Halo since the start of the year.
I'd also like to see the Mass Effect Trilogy brought over.

I tried the Gameshare feature today.
Captain Toad - Treasure Tracker on the Switch 2 with a cartridge, and paired up with my daughter on her OLED - which doesn’t have the game.

It worked flawlessly. We played together for about 90 mins, and eventually finished Episode 1.
The only downside is that it now appears on her Home Screen, even though it’s a game she doesn’t have.

I can't imagine anyone is playing this but Doom 3 runs pretty much locked at 60fps now @ 90 FOV, used to drop frames a lot previously with enemies on screen, I only mention as it often goes on sale for a few quid.

Also the surround sound effect in handheld mode (which is enabled by default) is really impressive, in Doom 3 I was genuinely hearing sounds a good 8 inches either side of the system.

I just started playing TOTK and thought, this looks really good.
Until I realised I didnt yet install the S2 patch :D
Now Im blown away!

Is there a similar patch that needs to be installed for MK8? Its not overly clear which games need a "S2" edition download vs a normal update.

It’s interesting the patches don’t go on automatically. You need to go to the store and click through as if you are going to buy it and then a download button appears. Would be easier if they just automatically did it.
