Lesson went well, he spotted straight away how far away from my body my hands were so he got me to move my hands and body closer together, this meant I could narrow my stance a bit and my balance through the shot was much better. This felt strange initially but quickly started to feel normal. At the end of the lesson I was hitting it much closer to middle of the clubface as well. Going out for 9 tonight to see how I get on.

83 again today for another +3 nett, still really uncomfortable over the putter and had 2x 3 putts and 2 completely woeful misses from inside 2ft, but overall better than last time, 34 putts and 3 birdies today.
First third of the round was absolutely chucking down and I was +3 nett after 2 holes so did reasonably well to limit the bad start
However division 2 beckons and I've done absolutely nothing this year to justify playing in div 1

Played yesterday afternoon in the Monthly Medal, played some nice solid golf which was quite pleasant, couple of not great holes but overall solid. 86 gross, 71 net, maybe enough for the win but who knows, I'll probably find out Monday but either way happy with things.
Today was my doubles knockout match, 4 ball better ball format, best guy on the other team was a 10.1 index so his partner got 15, I got 9 and my partner got 22. Started off pretty decent but so did they, was close but we ended up 2-up through 7 but then the rain started. 8 was ok but scruffy by both of us and we lost it before they got the 9th with the 10.1 index getting a birdie, back to all square at the turn.
By this point we were thoroughly drenched, the rain eased off a bit whilst we played the 10th but continued for several more holes. By this point though I started struggling gripping the clubs and it never really recovered. Anything close to a full shot and it had a 75% chance of the club slipping and the face being wide open/ball going way right. Really horrible to go through during a comp, I felt like I basically stopped contributing entirely, although think I did on one or two holes.
Still, I guess on the plus side we got to the 17th. They were two up going into the 17th but we lost the hole with them getting a par, game over.
I think maybe we could've won if it stayed dry and I had kept on playing well, but equally they could've still won, ah well.

Courses in excellent condition - both of them.... Greens were very quick, but very receptive to good shots etc. Bunkers could do with some more sand in them but both courses very very good.
Played poor on Friday (probably the 4 or 5 ciders I drunk on the way round!!) - Priestman Course - Even 4 putted one hole the greens were very quick and undulating. Did bounce back with birdie at the par 5 next.
Way behind Day 1 leader who shot 39 points!! (He got overnight cut for Saturday to try and make it competitive)
Way better Saturday on the Hunting - Bogied first and second - but then 7 straight pars including a great 4 at the ninth in the most biblical rain ever.... Was insane rain for about 20 minutes....
Solid back nine ended up 2nd of 15 players on Saturday with 34 points.
Excellent couple of rounds, decent hotel, good beers, average food. Still good value for £180 - 2 rounds / dinner /B&B. 3 hour drive to get there for most of us.

Going through a slump at the moment, rounds of 100 & 96 this weekend playing off 17. Index will be back over 18 for the first time in ages come Monday. Had a count up over lunch of the shots I hit well today, got to four and then ran out

I'm thinking of talking to the comp sec about the person I played with today.. Whilst they might not have intentionally cheated, their complete lack of understanding of the rules (high handicapper), puts me in a place where I think something should be said..
The difficulty I'm having is I didn't have the guts to say it to them so maybe I shouldn't now, I was not marking their card.
Playing a net medal comp and on 3 occasions they broke the rules. Two were blatent, one is a bit obscure..
Once they were in the trees, practicing swinging and knock seven bells of **** out of the tree. I'm not sure a lot of people know that's considered a penalty.
They picked up from 2 inches from the hole in a medal, which I was amazed at and said they were playing gimmees. (presumably from putts that were unmissable but still)
The worst was the bunkers were full of water but not GUR, after landing in the puddle they dropped back in the bunker and stuck it back in the water 3 times.. (couldn't get out) so the last drop went to the grass.
Also got their score wrong on 2 occasions.
I obviously played quite well today and I didn't want the hassle of animosity from someone who was very very far of the pace, but they did say they won a midweek roll up recently and I wonder if they used the same sort of rules.

Am I the only one that doesn't really like scrambles? Played in the 'team cup' yesterday, 18-hole 3-ball scramble. It was ok but I just struggle to get invested/focussed during scrambles and just end up hacking it around. It's not 'my ball' so why should I care? 
I'd have a chat with the comp sec, not with the aim of getting them DQ'd or anything but ideally the comp sec should have a chat with the guy and introduce him to the rules for the future...

Was on track to hit 80 on Saturday morning. Sitting on 76 coming to the last hole which is a short forgiving par 4 and one I always played well on.

Definitely need to mention it so the player doesn't unknowingly get into bad habits. I'm sure most of us have been there at one time or another when we started out. I remember when I was collecting cards for my handicap on one occasion a player partner had to point out to me that I was guilty of improving my lie in the rough as kept taking the club back behind the ball as I tried to work out how I was going to hit it. I've had the second happen with someone whos card I was marking, thankfully for them in a stableford. Informed them that unfortunately I couldn't score them for that hole. On the last I presume they didn't take the appropriate two stroke penalty when dropping out of the bunker?
This past weekend I was playing with a newish member who kept asking what distance I had every time I lasered the pin. I let them know after the round while we were having a drink that while it didn't bother me, that asking for this information was against the rules and that they should be careful in future less someone give them a penalty.

yeah - hard one but at the time I would have politely said something - like picking the ball up and not holing out in a medal is an easy one to call someone out on.
Are you sure? I'm not massively up to date on the whole advice vs information rule from memory but a distance would be information and not advice so I think that would be fine. I'm going to research for my own benefit to be 100%.
Pretty sure this is correct, asking for/giving yardage is just information and not advice.
Even going further and describing th hole is fine too, so like "there's three bunkers on the right but you can't see the last from here". But not "so the play is to land it around 150 yards to lay up before the bunkers" etc.

Correct - Yardage is information and not advice. Matters of public information, such as yardages or the location of things on the course, are not advice
Asking what club they hit is advice and not information. However they can ask what you hit on another hole previously.
Can You Ask Another Player What They Hit On A Par 3?
It may seem like an innocuous query but asking another player what club they hit on a par-3 could get you into trouble with The Rules.

Lost 1st Round of Club Champs knockout tonight in biblical conditions.... Awful - would never have left my house if not for club champs. 1 Down.
Very very wet - a few greens started to flood in places so had to move the ball a few times with agreement of playing partner.
Considering conditions - we both played decent golf.

Snuck out for a quick 18 last night - struggled getting off the tee cleanly, a couple of clumsy doubles - but tidied up on the back 9 and finished on 88, surprisingly - the way the front 9 went I was thinking getting under 90 would be impossible!

I have recently taken up golf. Bought a Callaway XR kit. Any suggestions for a good app to keep score, make club selection suggestions and decent course maps? By the way, I have a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.
The Grint is a good app, gives course overlays, distances and can keep score. 18 Birdies is another one I think.
I predominantly use Garmin Golf, which technically you could but if you're not in the Garmin world I don't see why you would
As above 18 Birdies is pretty decent, I use it occasionally and other than the pop ads trying to get you to pay the basic/free functionality is good. I *think* it can also hook up/work on the Galaxy Watch stuff too...
