BMW and M Power Owners

Quick question about the insured warranty which I have - the amp in my F23 died last October and was replaced and I just payed the excess. It has just died again, so should this be replaced again without me paying the excess, since it should have a two year warranty? Thanks

I would imagine so, it should be covered by its own warranty that shouldn't need any further excess paying.

After looking at 6 series GT's for ages I've finally made my mind up and put down a deposit on an approved used 2021 540i xDrive M Sport Touring in blue with white leather.

Just thought I better do a quick sanity check in here on the spec as I was a bit concerned that it was made during the Covid shortage but looks to have all the options mainly adaptive LEDs, H/K audio, wireless charging, HUD, comfort access, heated steering wheel and seats, comfort seats, drive recorder, parking assistant plus, 19" 845 wheels.

Mileage is a bit on the high side at 50k but only one owner so guess they've just been driving it up and down the motorway. I'm paying £32k for it.

What colour blue? Phytonic presumably.

Ivory leather is a great choice.

Sounds like it has most of the options you'd want, comfort pack, tech+ pack, visibility pack.

Pretty rare car really, not many LCI 540i Touring's around.

Yes that's the blue, it has a wooden trim too so it looks really smart with the ivory leather.

Interested to hear opinions on this before I make the long drive to go see it.

<20k miles, 2 owners, both packs (even though the advert only mentions comfort) and heated steering. FBMWSH. 4 brand new 4S tyres. Immaculate condition. It still has BMW Insured Warranty until October. Also comes with 12 months Toyota warranty (no idea how good this actually is).

Nothing comparable on AUC at the moment. Recently a 17k 1 owner LBB went up on AUC for £37,777 but it had a late service (still within BMW tolerances).

I have a feeling this one is overpriced slightly, but it does come with the BMW Eye dashcam which is a huge bonus (joke).

That is A LOT of money for an M2.

I’m not sure off the top of my head but I know the Porsche warranty isn’t valid if it gets sold to a non Porsche dealer. Worth checking if the BMW one is the same, else it might be void.

What car do you have now? What is it about the M2 comp you’re keen on?

Is it the overall package or driving experience? You could get a 981 Cayman for similar money which is a much more sophisticated driving experience.

Or a 240i with Birds dynamics package.

It is a lot of money but unfortunately this is where the market is currently at. Low mileage low owner cars with both packs are highly sought after.

BMW Warranty is transferable - I confirmed it myself (dealer also said the same).

I have an M135i now. Always wanted to move to an M2. Driven many, was close to buying one previously, love how they look and drive.

Stupidly I have never really considered other cars. I had no idea the 981 Cayman was available for similar money, what running costs are like, common problems etc. Also I don't want to spend nearly £40k on a high mileage high owner car.

M240i - looks like sub 15k mile 1/2 owner cars with all options ticked are available from AUC. Interesting.

I'd check the warranty situation with BMW first. It's fine to transfer an AUC/Extended warranty from a private seller to a private buyer, but when the car has been sold into the motor trade, I think it may be different...

You’ll get a good Cayman for mid to low 30s. Running costs are great on them if you’re not keeping it under warranty, and I don’t think there’s much of a reason to if you get the right spec.

Most common fault with them is the adaptive drivetrain mount (with sports chrono) which is a 1.5k fix.

The simple solution is - don’t get a car with sports chrono. It’ll cost you less too.

My perfect spec on a 981 having owned a Boxster with nearly every option would be:

Sport seats plus with memory for auto tilt mirror
18/19 inch wheels with no PASM
Manual
Bose
PDLS for 35w ballasts (better headlights) and they move with steering

I’d probably go for the base 981 too as you can really hammer the engine more without breaking speed limits as much.

@aaronyuri probably has some good info on these too.

Speak to Birds auto about their opinion on a kitted out M lite with their equipment vs an M2. They’ll be confident it’ll be much better to drive.

I understand it still wouldn’t be an M2 though.

As Robbo says make sure it’s not just transferable but also not voided by the car being owned by a dealership. Porsche is transferable but if you sell to a dealership it’s void, even if another person then buys it.

I'll give BMW another call. Toyota did reassure me it is fine to transfer however.

This is quite literally up the road from me. I'm tempted to scrap the long drive to see the M2C above (9 hour round trip) and go drive that, just to see how it makes me feel.

That's been my finding too - I've had several calls over the last few months from my BMW dealer wanting my car - first time that's happened! But then it's low mileage, has the packs, and is in fab condition as I can be stupidly fussy. I'm quite surprised by how well it's held its value. AutoTrader had it at 33k when I looked a month or so ago, which seems to support that 37k retail? EDITed to add it's a 69 plate with 20k ish miles I think, may be a little higher now.

EDITed to add, I'd be all over a Cayman if I could get in and out of it :-( Health says no... currently keep finding myself looking at an M3 Touring so I can leave that in the garage unused instead.

This is my understanding as well if it's an insured policy. The policy documents are available on the BMW site and confirm this. It's probably worth having a look through the documents yourself on the BMW warranty site.

I am not sure what the situation is with the approval used car warranty though.

You’ve got nothing to lose driving it.

I think you’ll struggle to find enjoyment driving an M2 after driving the cayman. The 718 is such a good car.
