Glastonbury & the BBC.

Slash was decent in 2010 but it clashed with England vs Germany in the World Cup so had a smaller crowd that it would have otherwise.

Yeah I was there as well.

I'm not a football fan - I seem to remember England went out to Germany then so all the people that watched it came back annoyed :D

The singer Slash had in 2010 did better vocals than Axl Rose can muster now to be honest.

I went to the football but it was pretty crap trying to view the screens from the back of a (not elevated) field, then towards end of the first half there was a legitimate England equalising goal disallowed, we left at halftime to watch Slash.

Loved Guns N' Roses back in the day, went to the Milton Keynes one back in 1992 I think. Doubt they will be as good as that day:cry:
I was at that gig also. It was ok but nothing special. Saw them at Donington in 1988. Now that was a gig (apart from the two poor souls who got crushed when GnR came on). Guns with Axl is a karaoke performance now. I'd be ashamed to take the money if I was him - really its so bad. Can't fault Slash or Duff but sometimes you got to know when to move on.

Some of the main acts are a little weak but there are some gems in the line-up and given the vastness of Glastonbury and the wide spectrum of acts (https://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/line-up/line-up-2023/?stage), you easily be able to walk into something you like.

Shame i didn't get tickets; will have to try for next year.

Edit - Will be interesting to see how commercialised and chav'd it is now - i last got tickets for 2013 and anywhere around the Pyramid stage was beginning to look like the local jobseekers.

*** 2025 *** reboot

Not sure what I want to listen to on the BBC, Neil Young, out, apparently - surprise appearance by oasis may give a pre-taster.
otherwise the new Springsteen album awaits this weekend

Now, the BBC have put the matter to rest, with a spokesperson revealing: “On Saturday on BBC iPlayer, our Glastonbury Channel and five streams for the main stages will bring a range of live performances to audiences. At the artist’s request, we won’t be live streaming Neil Young’s set. Our plans, including those for our TV highlights shows and on-demand coverage, continue to be finalised right up to and during the festival.”
what were the constraints the bbc imposed that p*** him off ? swearing ?

It's that time of the year where all the old farts come out and dump on the young peope for having fun :p

It may not be what it used to be in terms of 'vibes' but it's still way better than a weekend at home, albeit at a sizable cost.

As for the lineup, not amazing this year, especially if you're a normie or pensioner who only knows famous artists. That said...

Id happily go and watch

Doechii
Four Tet
Floating Points
Deftones
Raye
Maribou State
Caribou
Leftfield
Max Cooper
Busta Rhymes
Nile Rodgers & Chic
Goldie
Groove Armada
Calibre
Mode Selektor
Zero 7

The majority of the lineup i don't even know, which is cool, part of the fun of Glastonbury is just walking around and coming across artists you'd never have usually checked out.

Can't find anything you like ? That's a you problem, just about every genre imaginable is covered.

Terrible line up this year.
The headliners and main stages are dreadful, but as usual there's loads of good stuff across the smaller ones.

West Holts, Park State, and Woodsies lineups are pretty solid.

Maribou State
BadBadNotGood
Goat
Four Tet
Floating Points
Jalen Ngonda
English Teacher
Caribou
Kae Tempest

Seth Troxler and Damian Lazarus in the Glade will be good

The irony of your username alongside this comment is not lost on me :p

Some good picks in your line up, I'm certain I'd have fun watching most of them.

I thought this was well known about Glastonbury but apparently not. Not that I've been personally but I wouldn't go 'just for the music'.

Never heard of any of those. Guess 'solid' depends what you're into :p

We WAS 'njoying Burning Spear then "Something went wrong" Thanks BBC.
And we pay a license fee why ?????? ffs...............
IIRC all the backbone of glastonbury is put in place in about the week before it.,.

It's one of, if not the biggest and most complex outside broadcasts in the world* that is done from scratch, and these days they have a fraction of the staff on site providing more coverage than they did 20 years ago. It's incredibly complicated, and a lot of the time things that can go wrong to stop the broadcasts can be simple hardware failure that can happen any time, or are fixed within minutes.
Depending on the actual fault it might be up on iplayer later.

*Unlike the olypics etc they have to put everything into place specifically for it, including the most "basic" stuff like power. IIRC these days it usually involves sound and vision from a dozen or more stages with dozens of feeds.
