Commodore Amiga owners thread!

Just wanted to say Amigas rock. The family got a 1200 when I was 5 and it basically informed how the rest of my life would go! Thanks Dad for buying it off some guy in work.

:edit: I must ask him if he still has is stored, I have the feeling it may have been water damaged :(

well, as long as you have the case, there are people who have boards ready to drop in to get an amiga working again, I know that phill, AKA pure amiga has them, he dropped a 1200 refurb board in for me when my mum managed to bend the pins on the side slot when putting my side slot to flash card converter in, I wish that I could bloody remember what the sides lot is actually called!I use it to move files from my pc over to the amiga, rdy to be burnt to diskette
Phill spends time on the robin hood amiga discord group or here is his site https://www.pureamiga.co.uk/
he is a top notch electronics engineer, who comes highly recommended, he has some interesting stuff on the site's splash page, take a look, I never knew about the modern black tank mouse untill I saw that on his website which can be used with modern Pcs' too
He is none too expensive either just a fair price for a good job
My new a1200 board fitted cost less than £300all in, with postage too, very good guy
I'd like to thank my dad for getting me an acorn electron, when I was like 5 this led me into the 80s' BBC school movement perfectly and helped with my reading so much, playing text adventure games with him, happy memories!
then, much later in my 90s' teens he got me this amiga which definately changed my life forever!
Thanks dad!

I had an Amiga 500 as a kid, and to this day it's my favourite gaming machine I ever owned. I am so gutted that we sold it when I got my Playstation.

I always wanted to get my hands on another one and reading this thread has just made me want to even more lol. Where would be the best place to acquire one? I'm guessing taking a chance on Ebay or something?

https://www.amibay.com/ used to be a good place for trades.

A lot of flight sims started their life on the Amiga. It was a brilliant system.

I had a lot of fun in the early days of the Amiga playing the early flight sims, including Sublogic FS2 (The precursor to MS Flight sim), and F.A. 18 Interceptor.

It's a pity the CPU wasn't faster as a lot of the 3D sims had a pretty poor frame-rate, but it was streets ahead of what my C64 could do. Ironically the ST was slightly faster than the Amiga for 3D, being clocked at 8mhz, rather than the 7.14mhz of the Amiga.

Back in the day we use to connect 2 Amiga 500's together with serial link. This was years before PC multiplayer lan games.

The top games were 4 player Lotus Turbo Challenge II with split screen on each computer, so 2 players per computer.

Then I managed once a 7 player Stunt Car Racer (max players possible is 8), how that worked was everyone playing entered their names, and the computer would call up 2 people in turn to play against each other - one player per computer of course!

Just missed out on a great A600 set that's down the road. Not my Amiga or choice, but I'm gutted. eBay registered the bid late :o Saves me getting any more grief from the other half I suppose!
