Commodore Amiga owners thread!

RetroPassion are excellent, I just sent them the motherboard to avoid any damage to the case. Ask them to remove the two capacitors for the timing fix, especially if you have the TF1260.
So my A1200 is back with new caps and ready to try the TF1260. In the end I ended up going with Derek at AmigaSpirit. Very pleased with his work and service. Excellent communication start to finish which really helped the process. I would certainly use him again.

While waiting for my Amiga to return, I did some searching for games to play and anything that could let the TF stretch its legs. I remember the Amiga having a great library of games, but I somehow forgot that many (most?) of the ports are terrible! A lot basically mirror the Atari ST versions with only minor improvements at best. It’s actually criminal when you look at ports of games like SF2 and Final Fight; how did people put up with that stuff back then?

I had already moved onto the Super Nintendo and PC gaming by then, so I guess I missed much of what was going on with the Amiga etc. Sad times.

Towards the end of its life, there were so many ports and movie related games. Not all were great, like the ones you mentioned.
Exactly like yourself. I moved onto the SNES and PC by the time, SF2/Final Fight were available.
But the Amiga will always be remembered for the countless classics which I love :)

Have you checked out the redux of FF for the Amiga 1200?
Now that is pretty amazing and by the looks of it - and skim reading - that’s not even using the full colour palette that was on offer with AGA.

Further proof that original devs barely scratched the surface of the capability that was available, certainly later in the Amiga’s life. Great to see these community projects continue to push boundaries.

Folks, there is this kickstart even in Surrey taking place in February. I decided to have a go and attend. It will be the first time to attend one of these events, looking forward to it!

Glad to read this. I'm a long term visitor/ exhibitor to the South West Amiga Meet in Chipping Sodbury. Great to meet like minded people. Enjoy! Are you taking any kit with you?

Honestly its the first time ever so I decided to just take myself along to have a look/see.
I may stick the Amiga 500 in the back of the car just incase :D
But its more about learning and experiencing.

E: @!bluetonic! any advice or recommendations for this event? You mentioned taking kit, is it worthwhile to setup a table out there?

Have a look on YouTube for the SWAG event to see what's it's all about. The organisers are fantastic, providing tables and lunch in the ticket price.

I have a freebie to give away~
it is a vga converter, that turns the video out pins of an amiga to a vga socket,
it was built byEduardo@ arananet, a well respected retro electronics builder within the community.
It is specifically one that gives zero scan lines when used, I've tested this, and it is true, it gives no horozontal lines at all,.

there is usually a wait for this item, because he makes them in batches, I had to wait a months of spamming his inventory listing, it cost ~£25 plus the posting wait from europe
Do note that you will need a monitor that can do low refresh rates to match the amiga low refresh rate, you can search online for a suitable monitor, I got a dell U2410 which goes as low as 15hz, which I think is the amiga native refresh rate
comes with the miniature disket keyring that goes out with all of eduardo's amiga stuff here is the item on his store page
also, I can pop the vga cable in there with it,
I didn't stick with it because I prefer to use my scart to smaller LCD screen, as it feels more genuine, what with that screen being more the size of my old crt that I had as a kid, plus that has speakers on it, so less faff.
I was going to give away the monitor too, but my son has pinched it for his computer, and I cba to have my mum wrap up yet another monitor for posting
FIRST come, first served!

Can anyone remember an old Amiga game where you could sleep in a tree? I know it's not a lot to go on, but I can also remember if you slept outside, you died (death by a big cat)? it suddenly popped into my head when I was thinking about all the old games I loved as a kid (sensible soccer, micro machines, desert strike, james pond to name a few)!

Had one of these in the past, good of you to give it away.
seems the right thing to do
selling something that is worth so little anyway seems a bit daft, and I'm never going to use it again, I only got it to try connecting to a monitor, then realised I was happy with what I had anyway, just another berk wanting more, that's me!
You get what you give and all that.

Have been trying to work out the name of a game in my head for ages. Night breed! Finally. What a messed up game that was when your 4 years old :p
I was 7 playing this and Horror Zombies from the Crypt. Terrifying. Primarily due to the music used in some Amiga games - Prokofiev, Dance of the Knights i'll remember forever.

The game intros (short videos and menu music) were often more memorable than the game. The first ~10 seconds after a disk loaded

Examples

There's way more creativity in older games than anything now a days.
