Tennis

Was there yesterday on No.3 Court and had a couple of great matches in Kartal/Ostapenko and Rune/Jarry.

Watched some of the Berrettini match before getting a resale ticket for Centre and watching the end of the Boulter match and the start of Zverev before we had to leave.
Been on Centre before but it was a first Wimbledon visit for the friend who accompanied me so nice to get a brief experience of Centre Court.
Also the first time I've been under the closed roof which was novel.

Overall as epic as always but with one massive issue - the lack of line judges. This was truly awful for several reasons. The courts looked bare, the tradition of the judges calls was missing and the challenge system and drama that went with it is all gone.
I don't care if it's more accurate, it's a definite step backwards. At this rate all sport will be governed by cameras and computers with no referees or umpires at all.

Well yes, because as it gets later people leave. If you head down after work you often get in pretty easily. That's not because they've sold too few tickets, but because people don't stay late. What's your solution for that?

The only one I can see is to split it between day and night sessions, but that massively reduces the magic of the event.
Not said they don't sell the tickets, they either don't go or leave early like you said meaning the courts can be empty throughout the day. Why pay £100 plus a ticket and leave after 3 hours? when there is 5 hours plus left of tennis.
People just pick and choose what matches they want to watch, main courts empty last night but more full tonight as there are a couple of bigger names on. Still lots of empty seats.

More than 500 tickets could easily be made available over the day for the main courts, so its not they don't sell them, its they don't sell enough.

Another seed in a spot of bother. Coco needs a big turn around here.

Tracy Austin is terrible on comms.

Coco is dreadful at serving at times.

If Coco goes here the bottom half of the draw is really opening up. Maybe my dark horse Samsonova could go far.

Coco gone, another seed bites the dust.

Great match with Djokovic v Muller! Muller just won the tiebreak in the second set and it's one set each. Now they're putting the roof on.

But you're still effectively suggesting double booking seats?

No just make more available if enough people have left the grounds. Does everyone's ticket (centre/1) who leaves early get put up for resale or does the person have to make it available themselves?

Brilliant how Novak sees the other player has momentum, calls a medical and then reels off the next 5 games.

You have to put it up for resale. But towards the end of the day you can sometimes just sneak in to the show courts if it's not that busy.

Previously Wimbledon would ignore ATP/WTA rankings and use its own system for seeding. that stopped some years ago, but makes sense given the length of the grass season, with some top players playing just one or even no warm up tournaments.

With summers the way they are in Europe now, ideally there would be more of a break between RG and Wimbledon.

Anyway, enough of that. It's going to be interesting to see how Raducanu handles Vondroušová later. Despite being a former champion, the later was knocked out in the 1st round last year (IIRC) when defending her title. It's one of those where you wouldn't like to put money on either of them.

Boulter struggling, had a great chance to go deep into the tournament, potential next round against 112 in the World but making hard work of her current match.

I fully expect one hit wonder Raducanu to lose due to some injury again, that injury probably due to hurting her hand from fist pumping every single point.
