What film did you watch last night?

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)

I've seen it once before, but after a second viewing I think it was even better than I remembered. Three fully committed performances from the three lead actors, great soundtrack, sharp and funny dialogue, outstanding costume design and some wonderful cinematography to boot. Highly recommended.

8/10

Watched two movies yesterday.

Heads of state.

It was decent. 6/10

Thunderbolts - this was garbage…

I haven't seen Here but the theme of multiple people living in a house over the years reminds me of A Ghost Story. That one is a bit 'out there' shall we say, but stuck with me for a long time after.

Here (2024)

A film were the camera never moves and the story follows the lives multiple people who live on the land or the house that was built on it.

I've never a seen a film shot in the same way, so I suppose it gets some kudos for that. The main problem is because everything happens into he middle distance, you don't feel as connected to the characters.

The digital aging and de-aging is pretty good. There's a few funny moments and there's some dinosaurs at the very beginning. Still doesn't add up to much, but still reasonably watchable.

5/10

Jurassic World : Rebirth - 2/10 would not watch again.

The fact it takes them an hour to actually get into any Dinosaur stuff is criminal, the characters are woeful and written in such a non likeable way that you are willing for them all to meet a T-Rex inspired end.
The whole premise of the film doesn't work, there some god tier levels of insane stupidity on show and the action sequences dont offer any tension at all.

I wanted to leave early I hated it that much and but my wife insisted we stay until the end and when we got out she also stated she hated every second of it

Realy boring and senseless, waste of time plot, the climax is a limp ****.

1/10

How this **** makes money after the other crap they produced.

Bring Her Back (2025)

Solid 7/10

Not as good as Talk To Me, but an anticipating watch non the less. Overall the ending felt a bit lacking..

I watched this just the other night.......I loved Talk 2 Me, and this was on par.....brilliant.

My missus walked in at the fruit/knife scene......and quickly exited the lounge.

Solid 8/10

F1 - Many a cheese moment, carrying on the usual issues of commentators / news readers being in films and carrying out exceptionally wooden performances. Good film though, great action, really enjoyed it!

Orca (1977)

Italian film producer tries to cash in on the success of Jaws and uses a fake killer whale and the plot of Death Wish to do it, with the whale getting the Charles Bronson role.

Mostly terrible, even the acting is poor from Richard Harris and Charlotte Rampling, enough to make even Bo Derek look competent. A composite shot of a killer whale breaching is also reused so many times it's a joke.

I do vaguely remember seeing the end of this one as a kid, but I've never watched it from the start before and I never will again.

2/10

Love (2011)

Noticed it's on Amazon now, I remember being obsessed with the trailer back in the day (which is probably the best part of the movie).

6/10 on the basis that the cinematography is exceptional and what they achieved on a shoe string budget is very very impressive. I just wish the script held more punch. It's like a take on 2001 but doesn't hit the way it should've given the premise.

Crimes of the Future (2022)

Its currently on iPlayer. I like Cronenberg films for the most part, so seeing Viggo Mortensen had teamed up for another film; it looked promising. Both A History of Violence and Eastern Promises are decent.

Well, what the hell was I watching!?

The opening sequence, I nearly turned off. Anyway, stuck with it for a little longer, only to throw in the towel at 60 mins, just nonsense.

Not my thing. Guess there is some pretentious message that flew over my head. It just seemed like some perverse sexualisation of being cut up with lots of silly gore.
