Nearly 2 years and almost there. Awaiting a new PS pump & bracket as well as a new alternator. Maybe 2 weeks and itll be done.

Moderate necro.

What’s the ownership experience of a 10-15 year old GTR likely to look like nowadays? I’ve been looking at these for a while now, just window shopping previously but now giving it more serious consideration after renting one. I’ve watched prices rise and it seems around £45k is required to get a relatively clean unmodified car with not many launches. Are these a decent prospect for low depreciation over the next 3-5 years? It looks like around £5k per year needs to be budgeted for maintenance and tyres.

Depends on the maintainance history of it.

If youre dropping that much money into a GTR you may as well put an extra 10 in and get an EBA facelift instead that will have a higher resale prospect.

You think the TCO over the period would be equal or lower with putting an extra £10k in, taking into account depreciation? I hadn’t considered that.

I think youre less likely to need major fixes on a newer car that an older one is more likely to throw up simply due to age, wear and tear.

Price wise I think assuming you keep it a couple of years and the market doesnt throw itself off a cliff, you'll probably be losing around the same money on either car, but a newer model will be an easier sell as frankly the cba and dba's are looking pretty dated in comparison now.

I've got a 2016 model and owned it since 2020 and I've never spent that much. Though it's going to depend on how many miles you do and where you get it serviced.
Granted, I'm low mileage (I've done around 11 to 12 thousand miles since I got it).

I had been using Nissan and servicing rates cost from ~£600 for minor service to ~£1200 for a major (IIRC). Not going into the details just now, but I had issues over the quality of work Nissan did, so I'd recommend finding a good specialist to service the car and they will be cheaper than nissan.

For tyres, it cost me £1250 for a full set of Pilot Sports 4S ( I think that was around the end of 2023)

Over time I've had brakes replaced (~£2200 for the fronts) and a few other bits but I don't think I've spent more than £3k in a year on maintenance, but again that would be helped by the lower mileage, though I'm not sure how big the difference would be.

As you say, the cars are holding their value pretty well and the fact that Nissan doesn't sell them any more can't hurt. Regardless of that, I love mine!
