LG 42-inch OLED

Only just now had a chance to turn it on and get it mounted onto the wall, the picture quality is absolutely unreal.

The size is perfect, just need to play around with settings etc but looks like I've found a keeper.

Yep, I think that those 42" OLEDs are perfect monitors for gaming and general usage. I mean, some poeple will prefer smaller sizes, so they get 27"-32" OLED monitors.
But quality wise - those OLEDs are best in my opinion.
Couple of months with this new C4 42" - this will keep me happy for next 5 years, maybe by then LG will come up with some new tech, but if not, I will just get new version of same thing.
I think some known brands should start making more of PC monitors with those 42" panels - and make it affordable, not like Asus - took OLED panel and made price double of TV version.

Agreed, 40-42" feels like the sweet spot. I'm really happy with this so far, I keep getting taken aback by the picture quality, it's unreal. Who'd have ever thought a TV would work great as a PC monitor once upon a time.
This is the reason why I'd like to go back to a TV, the iq and picture quality of the LG's for PC usage is pretty much unrivalled! Part of me wants to wait for the C6 though, see if they push them to 165Hz or higher like the G5.
What are you using right now? To be fair if I had found a C4 on offer somewhere I'd have probably grabbed it but just went for C5 with 6 year warranty and it should tide me over nicely. I have a Dell 32" 4K that I'm going to place above it for things I like to keep open all the time i.e. CCTV / Spotify. Have set screensaver to turn on after 5 minutes to help with any afk activities.

Still tuning things up, not even tried gaming on here yet!

I've had more time to play with the monitor and today I ended up throwing the packaging away aka I'm keeping it.

It's really the jack of all trades from what I've used over the last months. The best thing as many have mentioned is the image quality is unrivalled. Tried a few games and everything just works great at 4K.

The only things I have left to sort out is auto dimming via service menu (I think I need a remote for this?) and also auto wake via LAN but the remote on/off isn't bothering me at the minute.

I am keeping a 27" 1440p on the side for anything very static during the day.

Using the free US60T 3.1 soundbar that came with it too and it packs a decent punch so it's a nice addition.

Folks, is this relating to the C2 LG 42"?
If so, I would like to ask, have any of you encountered a situation where your PC has shut down the screen. And when you wake up the screen you are greeted with the "noise" screen (ie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_(video)).

Any idea why this maybe? it seems nothing corrects this other than either waiting for it to refresh again the next time, unplugging the cable or simply resetting.

I am so surprised that no monitor even comes close to our 42" OLEDs, having gone through several now to find something better can hand on heart confirm this is the best option for 4k gaming for now. I do hope the 165hz trickles down into 42" models next year, so I can finally move the C2 into the kitchen :P

Sorry to skim 128 pages, but a few questions, pretty please :)
I fancy changing my monitor to something 42" that isn't ultrawide/curved, next year, and wall mounting it.

Where do you guys source these from? Direct from LG? Or is it as simple as OCUK stock them? When I've looked, briefly in the past, this wasn't the case - or maybe I missed them? As it's usually a sea of ultrawides and curved monitors, of which I've no interest in!

What is the warranty like on these OLED's? As I know with TV's, you're better off going with Richer Sounds and John Lewis to get extended warranties - I have had a nightmare with brand new TV's failing (4 since July, all between £500-£1900) so warranty is a must! None of this 1-2 year rubbish!

Do you have issues with watching 24FPS movies, or movies in general, as I will not put up with stutters or judders - not for this kind of money! OLED is meant to be the best you can get, right? So I want zero compromise if I'm whiling to risk burn in etc.

Thanks for any insight :)

I recommend Richer Sounds. 6 years warranty.

+! for Richer Sounds, got mine last week from them too. Otherwise John Lewis and Costco are my go to.

No issues with any of the content I've fed it so far.

I've not had issues with 24fps content, or anything cinematic in general. However I've found the screen response is so fast that some motion can be jarring as you can tell each frame apart. Good example is sideways panning shots in The Simpsons. But then a) those look bad on every TV and b) You can turn on motion smoothing etc. I run my TV with absolutely everything off so there's a lot of scope to improve the picture when something bugs you.

thats a great deal. Nice one
Yep. My advice is to wait till new series comes up, which happens January-February each year. Then they drop on prices for prev series.
5 Years ago I bought CX48 for £1000, but that was pretty much new OLED that could be used as pc monitor and that 48" was the smallest we could get. Tousands of peeps did the same thing.
Now, 42" is the smallest one and most popular for pc screens - this will happen every year now - we will get new series, perfect moment to buy yourself a perfect monitor.
I only hope that in next 5 years companies like LG will focus on making those as proper monitors in same price, so we wont have to use remote controls etc.

So is it a C series I want, and the number is just the newest one? What about the G series? Is the G better than the C? I'm pretty new to this, sorry!
Has anyone had any burn in or OLED issues? I've always feared this, and the idea of static HUDS, taskbars, UI buttons in applications etc, makes me worried for long term daily use as a PC monitor?

C is the "standard" / main series, G is the flagship series which usually has premium panel features. Since 2024 it also has a better CPU.

There are also lower spec models B and sometimes A depending on the year.

Then M and W and Z are special fancy stuff like 8k, transparent, wireless, rollable etc.

The number is the year, so there was C9 and B9, in 2019, then CX and BX etc 2020, then C1 and B1 2021, etc.

Burn-in protection/resistance is pretty good now - combination of better panels, brighter panels meaning lower voltage to drive them, and several firmware/software protection features. Many people suggest to keep backgrounds black, hide taskbar etc but many don't bother. I only use mine for gaming not office work, but I've still not seen any Windows or game UI elements burn in (or anything else for that matter).
