******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Years of poor management, lack of direction and wasted money.

I backed for SQ42, but i can understand both sides of the argument. I really wish they had focused on getting SQ42 out.

This has a major feeling of sunk cost falacy with more and more money 'needed' to finish development but them still putting out vidoes where they havent even designed the game systems yet. I think this has proven what the role of a publisher is in reigning in developer bloat.
Well the irony is that they have been focusing mainly on sq42...

It's why the pu is slow in development!

I have kept an eye on the game over the years but i dont put much value in that reason, they have had plenty of time to get SQ42 to a release state, didnt they say years ago the game was atleast at whitebox / playable from start to finish.

I mean at this rate Mark will be up in the stars with Carrie

Yes but they have stated multiple times that sq42 is there main priority and it shows from the lack of progress in the pu.

That was my point.

They are focusing mainly on sq42. It's a known fact

"focussing on SQ42" - when was all that filming done for CR's "I want to be a film director" again fantasy ? and years later they are still working on the game that is the "focus" !!

As said above - the actors will be in the ground before this is released at this rate.

Ridiculous situation -its nothing other than a gravy train for CR and his family - houses, cars and holidays and the suckers keep paying.

Even saw a post from some guy recently who admitted to having spent $4,000 so far - his justification was that due to the length of time the game has been in development it only amounted to less than $300 a year !...Talk about Stockholm syndrome.

er...I'll get me coat.

Mr Mint, it's been 5 years and you've been basically rewording the same whinge over and over again.
I get where you're coming from, but you really should consider letting it go. All this bitterness isn't good for you. It's just a game.

Gunned down in an armistice zone on Seraphin Station, first time for everything I guess
Same, well... Everus Harbor. in a Raft on my way out someone in an F8 locked on to me, i had already seen him and seen he was red as the Raft auto locked on to him, he was about 6K away and charging right at me, i could see the distance decreasing rapidly on the scanner, i was already locked on and spooled up ready to jump out, i let him get to 800m and then jumped to troll him.

On the way back now with a full load of cargo jumping in to Everus Harbor i put out a ping, nothing, he must have been powered down waiting as when i got close my Raft locked on to him and immediately i was taking hits, i switched to nav mode and boosted away, i took some damage before i got out of range, jumped first to Hurston, he followed me as he appeared on my radar again, jumped to Lorevill, again he appeared on my radar, i was in the armistice zone before he caught up with me, you know what he did? he rammed me from behind, he exploded but my Raft also powered down, soft death, i crashed in to Lorevill and spilled my cargo.

These are the people who shout the loudest that its not fair that people can run or jump away from their attack.

I always look at SC like it's either a brilliant scam from the start OR they had a vision and tried to do something that's not been done before.

Either way I spent £40 on it in 2014 and about 2 years ago I managed to start playing it every day and had a really good time with it. I liked what I was playing and wanted more but until it's less janky and more complete I don't see the point in any articles covering it really. They should plug away quietly and finish it OR draw a line under it, optimise and release.

And you will probably won't encounter a similar thing for another year or so.

This happens rarely basically!

Lots of things are missing before it is ready to draw the line on so to speak

Basically why I HATE multiplayer games involving PvP.

Basically why I HATE multiplayer games involving PvP.
indeed. well made npcs can be programmed to fill a role and they stick to it. in principle players can be far more interesting however (for me) the negatives of the plonker player type far outweigh any benefit. Also whilst I am happy to play within the spirit of a game and ignore holes in the ruleset if obviously unintended a certain player type will use them to grief other players. in elite the only mmo game with potential PvP I really play FD spent so much time trying to stop them unfortunately the rules they tried to make ended up probably making it worse and surely took dev time away from other things.
I would much prefer an option to allow me to play on a server without PvP and only other like minded players and let those who want potential player conflict play together. unfortunately this does then mean you need very well made npcs to keep things interesting but also PvP players often complain the loudest because despite IME them claiming to be a huge majority of the player base OTOH they also at the same time complain that the PvP area in such games are too empty because of other players "hiding" from them.
unfortunately minimising PvP is another feature which appears to have been culled

Honestly I am mostly solo PvE player and I still don't think PvE and PvP servers make sense.

The problem missing is the security systems and the lawful/unlawful setup being as they have discussed. That at least hasn't been culled. The slider was stupid though. But yes having proper hi-sec and low-sec makes sense. And the chance of having PvP where appropriate as a player should also be there when you are making a universe styled gameplay. The chances at min are just too likely due to the nature of the setup now.

But tbh I have only had such experience off such people a half dozen times since 2014 so I also don't think it is as great a deal unless you are going to known hotspots.

Your last sentence is what I was alluding to on my reply. You will hardly encounter grivers in the game.

What? All I ever saw on Reddit was people complaining about other players exploiting rules/bugs etc to gank them, regular ganking under the charade of roleplaying pirates, abusing the third person camera, stopping players achieving events by blocking areas with cargo etc.

Always said players are their own worst enemy. If they can't kill you they'll work out some other way to be a dick.

LMAO not even five posts down.

perhaps SC will be the 1st game to get it right (for my tastes) however IME in all the multiplayer games I have played (albeit not many MMOs specifically) I have found random players to be a detriment to the game rather than a positive except for pure arena based shooters where the only goal is to kill every last person standing.
if it's true that the huge majority want the full breadth of human interaction I do not see the harm in allowing some players to only play with other pure pve players. I don't see the other players... they don't see me. it's not like there won't have to be some instancing at some level anyway .

I think a lot of it is to do with personalities.

SC despite being boring as hell to get started, get into the ship, get organised etc. Does put off a lot of the adrenaline junkie people. I've only had negative experiences due to me putting myself in a daft situation or meeting a group of guys out to "pwn" in Star Citizen.

That can be overcome with game mechanics which don't overly punish players time wise.

I'm on the fence if I'll fire up Star Citizen again this year. It's too much of an unrewarding time sink.

see I must admit I have no issue with any of this so long as it all works properly and it's not like being at Heathrow airport during an air traffic controller strike. all that stuff adds to the versimilitude of the game universe and am fine with it.... so long as at the end of it I dont come to a bunch of murder hobos with end game or p2W expensive loot waiting to shoot me for lolz (which happened to me in the forest, gtaV and some others that I can't remember name of.)

there was a game which admittedly ended up a PvP fest and ultimately was canned before the pve element was finished (edit Hellion) but the levels of detail in what you had to do to go into and out of space - pressurising , depressurising , turning on mag boots etc it was right up my street. sadly it died before it was close to finished, but that was a tiny Dev group on a shoestring budget

Firstly what happened to the station defences? he was able to stalk the area around Everus Harbor freely without interference from station defences, he was red which means he already had at least one victim.

Secondly people like this have been complaining about people being able to find ways to escape their attacks and to some extent CIG have already been listening to them, if interdicted you cannot switch into nav mode while in the QT suppression bubble, well... you can but all it does it drop your shields, you're still limited to SCM speeds.
This was changed a few patches ago because where if you were interdicted you could switch to nav mode and get full speed, what you couldn't do was jump, this was a problem for some very loud PVP'ers, the sort of people who cry "its your fault for not enjoying what i'm doing to you" what i call a rapists mentality. So CIG made it so that if in the QT suppression bubble you're limited to SCM speed, no matter what you do, and if you try to run it will drop your shields, that's if you have any because when interdicted you drop out of QT with your shields down, nice.....

This is the sort of thing where it makes one wonder if they play their own game, if they test their idea's, because they either don't or its as intended. I don't know which is worse.

One thing is for sure they are quite obviously not MMO players because if they had any experience they wouldn't be asking stupid questions like this.
