******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

The whole "world first" thing is massively cringe. Evocati would arguably always be one of the first but the dev teams would again beat them to it. It's the most pointless claim possible.

Just play the game, stop chasing clout.. over pointless nonsense :D

I get it from a YT perspective, they are all fighting over scraps to be noticed, but yeah outside of that it's not something I personally care about. It's something I see holds more weight in MMO's (which arguably this is?) but doesn't really fit at this stage regardless.

@jonneymendoza The sunk cost fallacy really does work both ways, some people are invested in the negative narrative surrounding this game, that's not to say there aren't any negatives, there are... and these things need to be highlighted but there are also positives and talking about those will get you nothing but unhinged dogma from some.

It doesn't matter, it is irrelevant, they don't matter so don't treat them like they do, the game is growing in content, stability and players, its getting better, that is all that matters.

I had a lot of fun doing the Stormbreaker dungeon, it was difficult even with 4 or 5 of us, it was complex and extensive, it had depth, it had danger, its visually awesome, i've played a lot of MMO boss dungeons over the years, they are all pretty much the same, this is totally original, unique, there is nothing else like it.
Wish I could have joined you for that but it's been a crazy weekend.

Next time hopefully!

So, when is SQ42 coming out? Was it not meant to be this year?

I am guessing 2026 now :p

I just want that and if it is good I will be happy.
I come in peace.

My comment is scrictly in relation to SQ42 and not Star Citizen.

If the delays continue, Piranha Games might actually come close to the cinematic fidelity of SQ42 with Mechwarrior: Clans if, they can get 3 more DLC of similar quality out before the end of 2026 in order to complete their story arc.

Obviously this will be with Mechs rather than Space ships but SQ42 wont be the only sci-fi filmic experience in town by the end of next year that looks and plays like a movie.

Thats not to say that SQ42 is not needed, it is, but these guys and gals need to focus on shipping a base game. This is a compliment to the Unreal engine levelling the playing field as much as Piranha´s singular focus on upping the ante.

I've never made the connection myself, I like sci-fi settings but mechs have never done it for me, outside of playing MW3 with/against my friend back in the day.

If Mechwarrior could ever have some decent (i.e. not manually put together) HOTAS support, I'd be all for it. As is, I have Mechwarrior and have got no further than starting the configuration procedure, then giving up.

there was a mech game released back in the (actual) xbox 1 era which came with an official control deck (steel batallion). I never tried it with the proper controls but boy did it look incredible.

am sure that would be an amazing fit for star citizen, elite or well anything needing complex controls. you can get them on ebay but they are expensive and i suspect the build quality not all that, plus you would need an adapter to usb.

I’m already geared up for DCS, just frustrated that trying to set it up for Mechwarrior is a real mess.

I’m really only interested in Squadron 42 and I fear I will be too old to play it before it is released.
in a recent interview with Chris Roberts he claims SC42 will be out next year and SC in 2027 or 2028.

take it with a pinch of salt but that is the closest we have gotten to an actual release time line for a while from anyone near the top of CIG AFAIK.

Personally i doubt SC will release in 2028 unless CIG have a bunch of internal only content up their sleeves that even the Evocati are unaware of (happy to be proven wrong) and i will be stunned if its 2027!...... but if they get S42 out of the door next year - which as a none coder seems a simpler goal as they can limit the content to make sure that smaller scope works properly and dont have to worry about the networking and persistence so much........ For me personally if they manage that then that will be enough for me to go at for a good while..............

It's possible they just silently admit defeat, get it to an ok'ish state and then try get on a NMS style redemption arc by releasing all the stuff they promised as free updates over time. I think this is what will happen.

if they did that i would be happy...... the only reason i am not putting time into it now is risk of burnout due to account wipes. if they released a MVP which was stable, fairly bug free and most importantly progress protected there would be nothing stopping me fully committing. I know a lot would not like this and admittedly i may grumble a tiny bit about the cut content which had been used to sell the game... the truth is, i have not paid anything like as much as some for this game, and it was primarily for S42 anyway so i reduced scope - esp if to be fleshed out NMS style would be ok with me.

I totally respect those who would feel hugely betrayed by this however.

that is already what they're planning, SQ42 is supposed to be out next year and then StarCitizen 1.0 is now going to be like 5 star systems and many of the previously listed career types are missing from the 1.0 info - and even then they've included "exploration", but with only 5 systems it doesn't seem likely that you'll be discovering new worm holes from day 1
