I wonder if I called if they would do something for me. Lol.

I am guessing the package would still have CGNAT. would need next tier which would be 5GB. But who the hell needs that kind of speed

I dont see why not, a lot of the time its just a lottery on who picks up and how kind they feel. There's been a few occasions where I've called up my provider, they've refused to do anything and then I call up a few hours later and the person who picks up offers an upgrade or discount.

Also what is this CGNAT you speak of?

Was wondering if the 5gb would become 10gb, would definitely have jumped on that at that point. But alas, only up to 5gb from the 2.5gb package being doubled. :(

Still, excellent deals for anyone joining of course. :)

Yeah think its for all packages up until 2.5gb. I mean it still seems like heavy overkill for 99% of people but for the people who truly do have the needs and equipment, it would have been great

Might give it a go :p

Better you Google it tbh. But in a nutshell they don't have enough IP4 addresses and use it to share one address with multiple users.

Agree. Those playing around with AI would likely find the larger pipeline useful as models, etc get updated. Much of them number in double digit in GB size these days and the need of various ones as well. So those and other media content creators/editors will likely want that.

its becoming more and more of a thing for sure

Here's a tip, try to call towards the end of the day to coincide with when the phone operators day tends to finish. They're usually in a rush to leave so just say yes to everything to get it over and done with quicker out of laziness

Not sure they'll do that for the CGNAT situation, due to the limited amounts of pure IP4 addresses left that they have that can be offered. They do have some in reserve (Still), but it's offered for specific reasons only and likely needs someone higher up (who would have left earlier) to authorise it. I did get my normal IP4 back (it's mostly a super sticky addy rather than a fully static one from what I can see) but it involved contacting a few different departments and letting them know that the IP4 addy is utilised for services that involves a family members health and safety, so they reattached it back onto my connection in my case because of the fluff up initially (12 months turned off on a 24 month contract and no prior notification at all). But otherwise, it's normally reserved for the higher tier connections.

I was referring to getting discounts and upgrades! I agree the CGNAT situation is completely different.

The home packages not running CGNAT appear to have sticky addresses while not fixed, but using dynamic dns should be enough for most home users who want to do things such as VPN in etc, you could run other services on it using CNAME entries etc.

For a proper fixed address you need business package and last time I checked the costs were much much higher.

Aww nuts, I renewed my contract couple months ago. Although saying that I can't even take advantage of more than 1gb anyway with my home network, so even if I got the double speeds I'll need to spend more on switches and other things...

Another new service from CF just popped up... they're now offering roaming eSIMs: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.p...bre-launch-data-roaming-esim-mobile-plan.html

They claim it's cheaper than roaming with the main providers, but when compared to Airalo, Holafly, etc. it's more expensive.

Or just use tailscale

Will be requesting for an engineer call out soon (relocating their line, which costs up to £250), there's a small possibility that I may be upgrading to a higher package at the same time (5gb) if I can't get the relocating done for cheap or for free.

Will be aiming for their current pricing for their 5gb package which will only cost £366 more over my existing contract for 2 years. Which after subtracting the £250 for an engineer call out, means I really only spend another £116 (for the £366 total difference) for an engineer call out (guaranteed; to relocate the line) and get a faster package at the same time.

Personally hoping can get a free (or cheap) relocation (since current line works well), but if not - that 5gb package has never looked more enticing. :)

Do you have a router and devices that can saturate that?

Router, no. If I can get the upgrade to the 5gb package, will be using their Router device. But devices that can saturate it? Yes. Have a 10g network running here. Two rigs with 10g onboard and another (a file server I guess you can call it) is also 10g via a PCIe card. All have been tested and seen running at 1.07+GB/s speeds.

Network "diagram" here in this thread (when I was asking about daisy chaining two 10g switches to create a "core" switch and whether that's an issue or not given that design and setup):

lovely. i too am using 10gb connections all around my house. Its the way to go

Guys can you haggle the pricing on renewal since mine is coming up after Christmas and was wondering if I should contact them or do they contact you towards the end of your two year contract?

I just phoned and signed up again at the current pricing, the price increase isn't huge like others so I didn't "haggle" per-se. I signed up to 1GBps for £25 again for 24 months, same price as 2 years ago.

I did get a billing issue when my old contract switched over but that got fixed after another call the next month.
