What film did you watch last night?

The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) - 5/10

More silly and goofy antics with ample one liners and farce but the gags weren’t as good or as frequent as in the first film. The ecological political storyline was rather dry but there were still some iconic scenes and laugh out loud moments and the lead characters put on a good show.

Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994) - 7/10

It has bigger (more expensive looking) gags and lots more celebrity cameos but it also feels the most dated with lots of pop culture references and parodies of the era. It’s still funny with plenty of jokes, one-liners and slapstick action scenes, but no real laugh out loud moments. The main cast were as good as ever and the plot was good with steady pacing and gags throughout.

Mate went to see this last night and said he enjoyed it - was looking forward to this :(

Well you might enjoy it, a lot of people did.

But for me the biggest turn off was the Actors, I just didn't care about any of them. Then it was a long drawn slog between anything happening

The Right Stuff (1983)

A Christopher Nolan recommended film that I've never heard of, let alone seen. But it's based on true events and the early space missions, so what's not to like? Apart from the 192 minute runtime, not a lot. To be fair it never seems to drag and with such a great cast, visuals and sound design, theres little to fault in Nolan's recommendation.

8/10
Love this movie! Not watched for a while. Better drag out the bluray :)

*A Minecraft Movie (2025)

Took my kid to see it, he loved it.

For me it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, it was better than the Mario movie I took him to see.

I liked the Garret character, I like characters like this, a little bit like Johnny from Cobra Kai, looser/heroes.

My god Jack Black has piled on the pounds, and they just didn't need Shaniqua.

5/10

He's clearly at ease with himself, fair play to him....

Kevin & Perry go large.
Released around the same time as American Pie(1999/2000) & 8 years before the 1st episode of The inbetweeners, it's one of the 1st modern puerile lads films.
If you are of a certain age, then maybe like myself, I still find it a great occasional watch, especially if you were into the dance scene at that time.
My bedroom at that time was full off mixmag cutouts, just like Kevin's
Kathy Burke is superb as Perry. And its free to watch on YouTube!
The scene where they are in the sea is comedy gold imho.
8 / 10 for nostalgia & the fantastic music.

Yup first half was excellent but as soon as they showed the first monster it started going downhill and last half was meh, good premise poor plot.

I rather liked the set up, but as soon as they showed the monsters, and then basically explained it all, all the tension was gone. The set up was good, and then when they revealed there was something there, they should have let that part simmer for longer.

Good chemistry between the lead, good start but the direction of where it went really let it down.

Bring Her Back. 3/10
That was downright nasty. Enjoyed Talk To Me a lot as it was a decent twist on something that's been done a thousand times and managed it with a smallish budget too. This was a step backwards and is relying on the American History X curb-stomp yikes flashback to make this one memorable. Eurgh.

The irishman

Very long but good overall...with the exception of that unintentionally comical scene with DeNiro where he's meant to be 30 odds and he attacks a storekeeper for putting his hand on his kid. DeNiro played this scene out himself (instead of option for a stunt double with face replacement) and it really comes off as a doddering old man giving the most unconvincing hiding out probably ever captured on film. Most of the "beating" consisted of dinky kicks, and DeNiro stepping on the guys hand while trying to maintain his balance. Not to mention the glass doors on the store, and all it took to break the glass was a storekeeper on his hands and knees shuffling towards the door and that was somehow enough for both glass panes to unconvincingly break.

Rolling Thunder (1977)

Not very subtle and a bit rough around the edges, but a very watchable revenge thriller from the writer of Taxi Driver. I thought this was actually quite good and maybe even better than the original Death Wish, which it shares a similar concept with.

6/10

In the trailer, the narrator calls it "Ruling" Thunder, twice
I take it the awesome MegaDrive games, weren't based on this film? The Plot doesn't seem the same?
